For those of you that don't know, I made a breakdown two days ago. In the interest of brevity, I explained as to how dangerous Anderson is standing - regardless of his opponent. And it was evident in last night's performance. I mean he knocked out the number one contender out in devastating fashion, something he is all too familiar with. Now, there are knockouts and there are knockouts. For example, look at what Shogun did to Forrest. He absolutely brutalized him in a ridiculously short period of time. 1:53 seconds in the first round to be exact. As we all know, he knocked him down with a wild left hook - right hook combination and proceeded to pound out his face with a combination of hammerfists and wild lunging hooks. Given his ridiculous combination of unnatural speed and ridiculous power he finished him rather easily. If I had to describe Shogun's performance last night, I would compare it to that of a rabid Pitbull attacking a young child. Brutal.Merciless. Unforgiving.
But If I had to comment on Anderson's performance, I would say it is nothing short of a masterpiece. Dare I say, Artwork. And that is what Anderson is a true Mixed Martial Artist notice the emphasis on Artist. Now, I was originally a Muay Thai fan - and I've watched the greats ranging from Petroysyan to Hari to Schilt, I've watched numerous GP's and countless Muay Thai fights - and I can honestly say I would rather watch Anderson Silva fight. There is simply no one like him, and that is a fact. People mention the records he has broken, and that is all fine and good but look at the way he has accomplished those goals. There are great fighters and there are great fighters. Anderson is part of the latter, and he is the lone example. There is simply no one like him. Most people appreciate him, but I don't think people really understand the science of Anderson Silva. I'm pretty sure that Anderson Silva doesn't understand the science and the brilliance of Anderson Silva. A mad scientist, one might say. Always looking for the newer, more inventive yet unorthodox moves that have made him so lethal. But for those of you that don't understand the subtle art of Striking, it is his innate mastery of the fundamentals that make him so lethal. The yin and the yang, fire and ice - a perfect balance of the orthodox and unorthodox. His footwork, his head movement, his combinations, his fluidity of his movements and most importantly the speed that he operates at. The man is simply on another level, and there is no disputing it.
There are fighters like GSP, Fedor, BJ Penn who are great fighters in their own right - yet they are simply not on the level of Anderson. The creative brilliance is simply amazing. For example, look at the way he put Yushin away and how clinical it was. We see ground and pound and we expect it to be wild in order for it be "effective " for example Fedor or Shogun. Anderson completely shut down Yushin in the most technically sound way you can possibly imagine. Just look at it. The knee to the side, the 12-6 elbow to the spleen and the carefully placed right hands to the head of Okami. Beautiful, absolutely Beautiful like so many of his fights. Rich Franklin, Vitor Belfort and most recently Yushin Okami have all come up short in their respective fights. All terrific fighters, not cans as they were all Top 5 fighters at the time they fought him, all came up too short. The man belongs in an Assassin's Creed video game - he is simply in another galaxy, lightyears ahead of anyone skill wise and given his accomplishments you'd have to be crazy to dispute that. With that said, It's always an honor to watch him compete - he is simply amazing. He is without a doubt the greatest and most inventive striker we have ever seen, not mention the most talented Mixed Martial Artist that has ever competed.

Fixed it.. Sorry about that...
Ghan - His speed is something I've just recently started to notice. He slips punches literally as they're coming towards his face. His striking is unreal. His defense is the best, his offense is the best, his setups are the best...it's gonna be awhile before his reflexes fail on him, even at 36. Truly a once in a lifetime fighter.
I joke around, but the guy belongs in an Assassin's Creed video game. It's always an honor to watch him fight.

I agree. However, I think the way fighters like Shogun, Wanderlei, and Mike Tyson attack relentlessly is another form of artistry.

Eh, agree to disagree. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE watching a guy like Shogun fight. The man is a savage, everything thing he throws is intended to kill. With that said, the guy is still primarily a brawler whereas Anderson is a technician - an Assassin. I guess you can call it Artistry if you want, but I see Anderson as a true Mixed Martial Artist. You just don't see Shogun do the things Anderson does in the same fashion (for example the combination that put away Okami), in other words it's two different styles or at least that's the way I see it. Shogun's like a rabid pitbull, whereas Anderson is a methodical Assassin. Anyway, I love both guys they're bonafide bad asses and they proved it last night.

Ghan - Truly a once in a lifetime fighter.
Stryfe1982 - Anderson Silva truly is the best fighter on the planet. Anyone who says anything different is just a hater and that is all there is to it.
Silva should be the favorite against everyone.

The real question would have to be is Anderson a better striker or troll? Personally I feel he is just beginning to enter his trolling prime.
ds1970 -No argument here...Cerrone's Cowgirl -
Better video...
Anderson's the man

Shoguns technique is VERY strong, it's just very simple, where-as Anderson has taken the path of learning many different techniques, Shogun has worked diligently on the basics, which is why his very simple techniques are so brutal and hit very hard.
Yes, they do have different styles of fighting. However, Shogun can be just as much a counter-puncher (2nd Machida fight) and his Muay Thai technique is VERY solid, which is why he is so brutal. In Muay Thai, the stronger the technique, the stronger the strikes.
I see what you're saying, however, I think it's different styles of the same art and both are masters of their style.

Ok, I agree with you on that. You did make a good point, and I should have recognized that. And that is Shogun's technique has come very, very far. For example the first Machida fight, he picked apart one of the best defensive fighters currently competing. Even as recent as last night, he utilized better footwork than he usually does. And obviously, the stronger the technique - the stronger the strike...and Shogun hits very, very hard. I don't know, I've been training in Muay Thai for a couple of years now - and I just appreciate watching Anderson more than I do Shogun. It's not that I don't like Shogun, because he's my #2 guy, It's just watching Anderson fight is nothing short of spectacular - like I said the guy is an Assassin. One of my coaches always said to me that Brawling is the easier way to fight, the harder way is to be technical and spend the time learning the finer nuances of the game. But I guess it's similiar to what you said, they are both Assassins - just different styles.
