Why is it that MMA fans can't enjoy fighters without pushing them into retirement after some bad losses? Sure, sometimes retirement is a neccessity but it's not on us to make that decision.
Is there any possiblity we can start appreciating career fighters rather than expecting every single fighter to reach the top....or simply retire?
Who are some good career fighters that it doesn't make a difference whether they get the gold or not?
Let's appreciate them on this thread. I'll start:
Wanderlei Silva
Joey Beltran
Rich Franklin
ttt
Franklin had the gold, but he was my first answer to your question.
Good pick.
The Miller Brothers (Dan and Jim)
Tim Boetsh
Pat Barry
Stephan Bonnar
GladiatorGannon - tttSpeaking of Gannon, he and Kimbo could be on this list, I like watching both of them fight win or lose.
Wouldn't mind seeing a rematch either.
Chimonos Revenge - Franklin had the gold, but he was my first answer to your question.
Good pick.
The Miller Brothers (Dan and Jim)
Tim Boetsh
Pat Barry
Stephan Bonnar
Him miller could still snatch the belt maybe? I think schaub is a good example of a guy who probably won't ever wn the belt but will make a good career out of doing what he loves to do.
*jim miller, not him miller.
^^^ Even if he doesn't, Im still a big fan
Hell after the Shields fight (only one loss) in which his back and neck hurt and he had to VERY bad cut due to a medication, they wanted Hendo to retire too! Now he's 7 out of 8!
ABE FROMAN - Why is it that MMA fans can't enjoy fighters without pushing them into retirement after some bad losses? Sure, sometimes retirement is a neccessity but it's not on us to make that decision.
The only time I ever mention a fighter being better off retired is after too many flush shots to the dome resulting in losses or KOs. For instance, I wish Tito had not retired, he gives his all and hasn't taken a lot of head damage other than his cracked skull.
Otherwise, my choices for entertaining career fighters who won't be winning any belts in the UFC (no offense) are:
Donald Cerrone
Struve
Yves Edwards
Vitor*
Frank Mir*
*yes I know they have won UFC gold before, that was then, this is now
Pat Barry
Mark Hunt
Lyoto Machida
Ed Herman
Joe Lauzon
Cole Miller
Nam Phan
There are more but thats all I got for now.
Nice thread Abe.
I appreciate fighters even if they dont ever win a UFC championship. I DO however wish some guys would retire rather than keep getting their heads bashed in (arlovski, vanderlai), but it's just cause I don't want to see them get brain damage.
Faber
Guillard
Florian
Diaz bros.
Fisher
R. Nelson
Beltran
Hardy
D. Sanchez
Cerrone
* Condit, Guida (w/o Jackson strategy)
2 of the ALL TIME Career Fighters.....first ballot in the Career Fighters Hall of Fame
#1 Jeremy Horn - gets #1 ranking for also contributing to may other career fighters in training
#2 Travis Fulton- the MMA fighter, not the Boxer
somebody out there can prob quote their records. off top of my head am guessing
Horn - 65-17
Fulton - isnt he the one with over 100 fights?
87- 35 - 6
