is like the steroid scandal in baseball. It's been a known dirty secret for some time now. The time is ripe to act and clean up the sport before the next step towards legitimacy is taken.
Just like McGwire, Canseco and others were sullied by the baseball steroid scandal, so must the Severns, the Shamrocks, the Ritches be called on the carpet in order for the sport to advance.
I'm proud of those who are now calling for Severn to be held accountable.
Please give this thread a TTT for all to see and continue the meaningful discourse.
"so must the Severns, the Shamrocks, the Ritches"
Shamrock? Details on this one, please.
give it a rest sparkles. For the amount of pro mma fighters out there, you're naming three names.
Hell, shamrock was in Pancrase before this shit was a real sport.
What are we really talking about here? Hundreds and hundreds of mma fights this year and MAYBE one was a work?
I think you need to stop making posts about it before mainstream media picks up on it since your making it you r life's mission.
It's not my life's mission. World peace is my life's mission.
For all of the people on this board that like to talk about supporting the sport, you'd think that there would be more of an interest in cleaning things up. This sport will never hit the mainstream, nor will it be ready to hit the mainstream, until this sort of pervasive fight rigging is under control.
If you don't think that this is a big deal, I have to disagree with you.
I'm not saying it isn't a big deal, i'm saying it's not a huge problem in our sport. You're given an uneducated person the idea that works are happening consistently. That is not the case. we are talking about ONE isolated incident that just took place.
Prove to me that it's happened more than that this year.
Prove to me it's happened a few times in the Zuffa era of MMA.
Prove to me that it's happened a dozen times in all of MMA history.
And pancrase is not MMA.
There is a definite pattern with Severn, and instead of treating him as a pariah we seem to have placed him on a pedestal.
See? This guy, Severn, has been inducted in the UFC Hall of Fame.
This is a particularly sensitive issue for me, as I was a HUGE fan of Dan's from early on. In fact, back when I was competing, he had come to train with us for a few days and I was just thrilled, as this was like 7 years ago, when they're wasnt as much of that type of thing going on.
What ruined it for me was the work with Fulton at the WEC show. I was the referee for the match and I was just blown away at what I had just witnessed. What made it even worse was the fact that Dan got on the mic and gave this long, sentimental speach about how far MMA had come, it's mainstream acceptance, the support of the fans, etc., only seconds after finishing a worked fight.
I still respect Dan's accomplishments in the UFC and dont believe it would be appropriate to "strip" him of his acknowledgments but I certainly have lost a ton of respect for him.

Yea, this sport should be more like the mainstream sport of boxing and not have any rigged fights or BS fight decisions.
Exactly, BJandCF. We can't sweep this under the rug.
You would never be able to get rid of it 100%. Indeed, there will allways be speculation. At least a little attention should be devoted to really silly looking works that even a non-mma fan will believe. I mean, if Coleman hadn't let it slip that he was going to job for Takada, THAT might have passed as a lucky sub. Obvious fakery will burn down this sport.
