Sweet!

Great podcast!

Like Henry more and more!

Notes:

Co-teaches with Ronda Rousey. The class begins standing up. She teaches the throws. Henry takes over from there and teaches the ground.

Teaches mostly no-gi. More practical. Doesn't watch tv. No one in Cali wears parkas most of the year. Because of the UFC, most people wants no-gi.

Both of his ACLs are blown.

Doesn't like sport BJJ.

Kamal Shalorus teaches his wrestling class.

Thinks sport BJJ has made MMA BJJ weak.

Very few people understand the guard in MMA. He says the guard is a dominate position.

Has trained with Rickson more than any other Americans.

Rickson has "supersensitivity"

You can only learn invisible JJ directly from Rickson. No one else.

BJJ is the best single fighting style.

Correct breathing is underrated.

Yoga is great for BJJ...but you need a specific type of yogic breathing for BJJ.

Have goals, principles and concepts, don't just learn techniques.

At 40 and not having trained for several months due to injury, Rickson tapped out a 25 year old 2 time world champ 3 times in only a few minutes and the last time he tapped the guy just from side control pressure.

All very good.

If he is going to build most of his reputation on Rickson and his knowledge, I would like to know how and why Henry and Rickson parted ways.

John, I think Kron took over the school and that gave Henry the freedom to open his own school.

I've taken dozens of privates with Henry. He is awesome. I will say that I find the invisible jiu jitsu difficult to learn. Imagine if someone was teaching bjj but using the terminology and thought process of the internal martial arts. He can show you tricks and tips. Stuff you can learn from videos. But when he does something it feels different. That is the invisible part. Reminds me of Ueshiba's students tales of their teacher. Unlocking the mystery keeps me intrigued. Phone Post
