The Hamasaki/Rose/Shevchenko/Nunes era

I don’t even really like WMMA in the UFC but it has been great watching the four champs dominate the five divisions.

Hamasaki has been undefeated at AW for twelve years besides a controversial split decision loss vs someone she had beat twice already. She has held the Deep Jewels and Invicta titles and is the reigning RIZIN champ.

Rose has been #1 at SW for five years, beat the former long reigning champ 2x and has been undefeated besides the slam loss she avenged. 2x SW champ. 4-2 vs the four other fighters to have won the title. One of those loses was only two years into her pro career when she lost the inaugural SW title fight and that was seven years ago.

Shevchenko is undefeated at FLW for EIGHTEEN years in pro MMA. I thought she won one of her two fights vs the BW/FW GOAT as well. Earned 8 world titles in muay thai and several in kickboxing in that time as well.

Nunes is the BW/FW champ on a 10 fight win streak beating everyone and anyone at both weights. 12-1 in the UFC. Her official loss was seven years ago and the controversial split decision win over the FLW GOAT in a BW fight is the fight of hers that was not complete domination over the past seven years.

Anyway, when these four fighters are gone I’m not so sure we will see complete domination of all five weight classes to this degree perhaps ever again by four or five champs all at the same time. Even though they have lost, Hamasaki has never lost at AW, Shevchenko has never lost at FLW and Nunes has never lost at FW and barely lost at BW and that was forever ago.

The champs are amazing and thats coming from someone who prefers to watch very little WMMA.

Like I said, I’d even rather see WMMA outside the UFC or in the WUFC on separate cards but these champs deserve a lot of credit.

I make an effort to watch all their title fights.

If you go back to 2010… Cruz was WEC champ, Aldo was WEC champ, GSP, Anderson, Shogun, Cain were all UFC champs.

2020/2021 is the closest thing WMMA has had to a 2010 in terms of the champs.

I think Weili gets the belt back at some point and holds it for a handful of defences.

thought it said ‘decades’ and was tempted to half-agree
