The Insane Engineering of the A-10 Warthog

I learned a lot about the engineering of the A10 in this video.

Air Supremacy!

I had the gi joe a-10. Even when I was 9 years old that plane gave me a boner.

That was pretty cool. I like how they started with the gun and built the plane around it.

The USA owns both the air and the sea.

Yes the A-10 is an infantry man's best friend, but the AC 130 can bring an entire division to their knees.

You can't see or hear the AC130 when overhead, especially when in contact. The ordnance seems to just rain from the heavens. No warning for the targets. 25MM looks like a stream of sparks from the sky. They tend to be more autonomous in their attacks, once friendly positions have been clearly established.

The A-10 sends them running if the approach isn't linear to the enemy line. Not that they get very far. Often there's a wingman to bat cleanup. A good JTAC is key to maximizing effect.

Either way, our battlefield dominance is unmatched. I'd be terrified to be on the ground against an enemy who had similar capabilities that we couldn't counter.

the A10A and A10C are always fun to take out in DCS. A10A if I’ve had a couple, A10C if i am more sober.

fuckers could make the trees bend going over us during fallex.

Love them.

Enjoyed the a10 tank killer game from dynamic way back when. Good early pc game.

A plane designed around one of the world's most feared weapons. Absolutely beautiful.

I've often thought it morbidly funny...

In WW2, the sound of the MG42 meant hell was round the corner. Advancing infantry knew exactly what that sound meant. It was unique, hellish, and meant death was waiting.

The Gau 8 is a far scarier sound, but you don't get to hear it. You just get torn into pieces.

That's... beautiful in a way.

I saw an AC130 at an air show. It was doing low flybys and some crazy maneuvers over the crowd. I was thinking how fucking scary it would be it that thing was raining down on us. Quite impressive machine.

I live near an AFB. Used to see them flying overhead sometimes. They are cool.

My favorite fighter jet

Brrrt brrrt IMO

i often ponder how the A10 would fair in a war, which so far it hasn’t really had to deal with, where air superiority isn’t a certainty. The A10’s air to air capability isn’t great. A couple sidewinders and no air to air radar. In recent campaigns it can loiter for days and only have to worry about manpads, etc. If the US got into a shooting war with Russia or China, where they can’t be guaranteed air superiority, the A10 would need escorts or operate in an area where there wasn’t much for air threats.
