They expect every situation to be perfect and when its not they dont understand how to make it better so they bitch.
I just got off the phone with my friend asking my advice on if he should take this job offer or not.
Background on my friend: Mark is an amazing chef. One of the best young and up-n-coming chefs in the area. Went to great cooking schools and has been working in the kitchen since he was 8. His dad owned his own restaurant and Mark has only ever dreamed of doing the same thing. Marks specialty is Sushi. Just like me but hes far more talented then I am.
Mark works at the best Sushi place in the area and the owner makes some of the best sushi in the Tri-state area. Mark went there to try and learn from the owner. The owner (named Shinya) often is not there since hes always flying back and forth to Japan to meet up with his sushi master to learn even more himself and any legit sushi chef would do. We are always trying to learn to get to such a high level that no one can tell us shit lol.
Because of this Mark never really learns from his Sushi master. When Shinya is at the restaurant he rarely like to teach Mark anything anyways. During the winter time like now the restaurant closes until spring and Shinya goes back to Japan to learn and vacation. Leaving mark without a job and having to go on un-employment. Many business close in my area during the winter time since my city is a resort/vacation city for the most part. Im lucky that I find year round work and feel like i should never take un-employment.
Mark is no longer happy with this job since he struggles so much in the winter time to pay his bills. I tell him he needs to find year round work.
Mark ends up finding this one guy who wants to hire Mark. This guy owns 5 restaurants and promised Mark that he will have year round work. He also promises him 1 more dollar an hour then he alreayd makes. He will not need un-employment and he will make even more money.
This owner even says he plans to open a 6th place in a year or 2 and wants Mark to run it when it opens.
Sounds great huh? Well not to Mark. He thinks the owner is trying to take advantage of him. I tell him "well mark it sounds like hes trying to sell himself and his place to you. He has tried your food and likes your work. He also tips you 150 every time he trys your food. He wants you."
He went in today to work to see how the place is ran and to get a lay of the land. He was upset that the Chef didnt come in today (may have been his day off idk he never told me). Saying the Chef is no different then Shinya. I tell him "Yeah that sucks and he should have been there but getting paid and extra dollar an hour on day 1 and 40hours a week for sure and with a chance to run your own place is way better then anything Shinya could give you."
His response......."yeah but working for Shinya looks great on my resume."
