A couple of days ago I started a thread about the most underrated fighters in MMA history. In that thread I stated that I felt Igor Vovchanchyn was the most underrated fighter in MMA history, a lot of people on the thread stated that they felt Igor was not underrated, as he gets a lot of love from hardcore MMA fans. This got me thinking about Igor's legacy, how will he be remembered.
Igor came into MMA as a former a decorated kickboxer, he managed to compile a kickboxing record of 61 wins from 63 fights. Igor was a true inovator in the sport as he was the inovator of the sprawl and brawl technique.
During the late 90's to the year 2000 Igor was considered to be the number one heavyweight in the world and one of the top pound for pound fighters in the world, this is impressive enough, but made even more impressive as Igor spent most of his career fighting as an undersized heavyweight, beating and stopping guys who were a lot bigger than him.
Igor won 55 of his 66 pro mma fights, and of those 55 wins, he won 47 via stoppage (29 ko's, 18 submissions). He also had went on an impressive 37 fight winning streak from the year 1995 to year 2000.
Taking all this into consideration what is Igor's legacy in the sport. Do you think he is an all time legend? And if there was an MMA hall of fame would he be an inductee, and if so is he first ballot.
Watching Prime Vovchanchin in NHB fights = 7th heaven
One of a kind!
I'm blessed to have known that era.
