The lingering death of RINGS

Came across this blog that seems to focus on the last couple years of RINGS and thought I’ve only skimmed a couple paragraphs it looks like an interested read for later. Thought some here might be interested.

the king of kings tournaments and their events in holland promoted by bluming and dolman were awesome.

RINGS had absolutely no credibility to me after the King of Kings tournament. This was a puroesu promotion that supposedly featured occasional shoots. Well they manipulated the outcome of their real fights. Dan Henderson never won a single fight in that tournament but he kept getting his hand raised because they wanted him to win for some reason.

The tkscissors blog is an incredible project. A great read for anyone interested in that particualr wierd confluence of mma and pro wrestling that built mma in japan

Pride stole a lot from rings. Interesting how that all went down. [quote=“flemingo, post:5, topic:3707887, full:true”]

price specifically stole all their champions and anyone who showed promise in the King of Kings tournaments

that’s why everyone hated him so much, that and the “wins” over goes and newton in the ufc tournament

I thought the newton fight was very very close, and i love carlos newton

When Henderson got announced the winner in the Newton fight, I was so mad I almost kicked the TV. Henderson definitely had some moments in the fight but Newton delivered the most damage, came the closest to a finish, and controlled the pace for more of the fight.

The Goes fight was a lot closer but I still had Henderson losing. The UFC wanted him to win that tournament and that’s exactly what happened.

you obviously didn’t watch that live

I did not, i was 5

Really? I thought you were an old timer like me.

Nah, I’m an mma hipster, first event I watched live was ufc 162 and I immediately decided that old mma was better, probably because my real introduction to the sport was Bas Rutten’s commentary on his pancrase fights on youtube

That’s a surprise. There was a guy in the late 90’s who went by Domingo who posted on here and ran a website where he sold tapes of all the hard to find NHB, Vale Tudo, Shooto, Pancrase, etc, events. I think I conflated your names and I assumed you were that guy, which was easy to do considering your expertise is the old stuff.

you’re clearly watching the fight through the lens of the established henderson, the fighter he became long after the ufc and kok fights. there was a reason he was virulently despised as “decision dan”, the henderson from pride was a polar opposite to the early decision dan days.

I have a fucking library of MMA shows from Rings to K-1, Pride, early UFC prelims, Shooto, Pancrase, Outsiders, M-1, Cage Rage, Pro Elite, Elite XC, Sengoku, Dream, Hero’s, BattlArts, and way too more to list- I sought out fucking everything that ever aired.

Not sure what to do with all these DVDs, I was the dude when it came to MMA DVDs and tape buying and trading communities tbh.

Anyone know if Jeff Lynch is still going?
