There’s definitely some shady stuff going on.
Goddard let izzy take 26 straight punches from Strickland but couldn’t stop omally vs sterling quick enough.
Where there’s large amounts of money, there’s corruption.
I always thought Mcgregor vs Mendez was a fix. I never saw a fighter just stop fighting like Mendez did.
100% they are influencing outcomes
Herb Dean is their go to ref whenthey want a popular cash cow fighter to win. He will stop fights early in cashcow’s favor.
The judges are paid off and corrupt. No explanation needed there
USADA shows favoritism. I believe UFC uses USADA to blackmail fighters who don’t play ball. They also let certain fighters juice like Jones.
That 10-8 in the last Schevchenko fight was a pretty obvious fix.
Not fixing fights but the judges are definitely being influenced
I have always maintained this. Chad was beating Conor like a rented mule and then just…stops.
I don’t know if they’d outright fix fights as opposed to shit like the NBA (and other sports surely) where refs are instructed on what to look for and focus on each game when calling fouls.
With the timing of your examples, Goddard may have gone from one extreme to the other after taking shit about the O’Clowney stoppage being too quick so he let Izzy go on longer.
I could see refs getting the message like “if this is happening stop the fight” where the outcome is not fully controlled but calls will favour their guy wherever possible.
But I know nothing! Other than it’s a massive risk to actually fix fights. I doubt Dana wants to put jail on the table just so he can get a title on O’Clowney.
Shades of Carwin vs Lesnar
he had short notice. so no gas. and he was getting stabbed by front kicks to the body.
Refs and inconsistent stoppages are a great way to control outcomes of fights. Nobody remembers who really won a few years later, nobody even remembers bad stoppages. They just look at record and say fighter A has a win over fighter B.
With all of the talk about CTE, they have the fans always going a long with it. “I dont want to see him take anymore damage, he wasn’t coming back from that”? Meanwhile, the fighter was still awake, or even on his feet.
