The Smashing Maching

Ed, whats up bro. Call me tommorow and hope to see you and the woman on Monday 12th Jan at the Ivar.

Bobby Razak

Rites of Passage is an awesome documentary and the extra features on that DVD are better then those on Smashing Machine. They are both in the same league for me, I've seen them both multiple times.

Got Life in the Cage as well. It might not compare to Smashing Machine and Rites of Passage but its still cool, alot of my friends like that just for the Lion's Den footage alone.

So if anyone was making a documentary today where would you start? any particular fighter/promotion you would focus on? Whaty story would you hope to tell? I'd try to show multiple storylines and try to cover 2-3 different fighters and situations. I think following Zuffa and Dana White and trying to get the story behind the scenes there would be interesting. Frank Shamrock would be a good story obviously.

ttt

It was great, I like how it kinda turned into a Coleman documentary.

"beat up my friend"..................Bas: "ok" BAM!

Just saw Smashing Machine the other day for the first time, it was pretty good. Rented it from Netflix. They also have Rites, thats on my list to see too.

Yeah they really made Ricco look like a slacker. Don't know him personally but I can't believe anyone can get to where he is and not be commited so I would have to believe this was kinda a false portrayal based on one incident, but like I said I don't know him personally.

best MMA documentary ever for many reasons...

"beat up my friend"..................Bas: "ok" BAM!"

LMAO. The noise that Ricco made when he got knocked out was priceless. I dont know if Bas meant to hit him that fucking hard, Ricco just walked right into it. What cracked me up was watching Bas help Ricco collapse to the floor slowly and then explaining to him what he did wrong in the striking exchange.

anyone notice when Ricco was getting his ear drained that the sryinge had white stuff in it...hmmm, wonder what that was.

the best part about the smashing machine is that...ANDY ANDERSON MAKES A CAMEO!!! he is in the background of one of the scenes

the andy anderson game lives on

I have Smashing Machine, & yes you couldn't help but notice how Bas seemed to dislike Kerr's g/f Dawn, Kerr isn't with her still, is he? I thought they got divorced....

Where is "Life in the cage" sold at?

"Smashing machine was awesome, rites sucked cock.. i turned it off halfway through because my friends thought it was a gay porno."

otflmao !!!!!!!! thats the funniest shit ive heard all day lol

See, part of the problem with Life in the Cage, as well as Rites of Passage to an extent, is that it they both try a shotgun approach to the storytelling. When I was shooting, I had no clue where it was going to end up, I just followed as many narratives as I could and figured it out in the editing room. The makers of SM didn't have any more idea of where it was going either, but they had decided to focus on just one guy.

If I were to do another one, that's what I would do: follow just one individual.

I love SM, far and away the best MMA doco. Rites is good but it is too disjointed, its a collection of little documentaries. Both were well worth the money though.

I laughed my ass off when Kerr's girlfriend flipped him off while she was sitting near their filthy pool. Why did he ever go back with that drunken fat ass.

Kerr stunned me with his honesty and willingness to reveal it all (which I'm sure some of the other fighters championed would not have done).

"Life in the Cage is ok...they have way too much fight footage imo. The training sessions were cool along with the interviews and such."

Agreed. Looking back, I wish I would have included more cutaways. Oh well. Hindsight is 20/20.
