I love the stories in MMA. People who say, “what's up with all the Jones haters? I just like to watch him fight.” Are the same people who will enjoy the story of his return to glory after a checkered past. What's wrong with having an opinion on someone? Also, Jones haters are still gonna pay for his fights, because he's a great fighter and his story intrigues them if they don't like him as a person. Fights are fun, but isn't it the stories behind the fights that make them great?! Isn't it one of the reasons people love rematches?! Would Ali still be “the greatest” if it weren't for his hardships and story?
I love the story of Ronda Rousey, the story of a down-on-her-luck Olympic medalist who went on to change a sport and becomes it's biggest star!
I love the story of Holly Holm, a young preachers daughter who walked into a gym at 17 years old and has worked with the same coach for 17 years to win multiple titles in boxing and kickboxing, and then to turn to MMA and shock the world.
I watch all the fights I can, but I get particularly pumped for the fights that transcend the cage and bring an awesome backstory to the fight!
