Something that was said on another thread is really eating at me.
The truth came out and it hurt.
Well respected MMA journalist "Eatonbeever" said this on another thread
"This post struck a nerve in me and i'll tell you why.. There is a false belief that all fighters under UFC banner is a good thing - when in fact this is completely false....
UFC got all the best fighters, just so they wouldn't fight each other because Zuffa wanted to keep them as the top 'spot' and have them beat 'legit contenders to keep credibility' when they should have been fighting each other.
GSP and Anderson Silva were under contract with UFC for seven years and have NEVER fought each other...
Bones vs. Anderson - would never happen in the UFC."
The post elaborated further, but you see the point being made.
The UFC never once for a second had interest in seeing Ben Askren maul Rory Macdonald. Rory's most recent appearance on the JRE further compounds this reality, Rory even said that his next fight for the title will undoubtedly take place in Canada.
Why would the UFC feed a big money meal ticket like Rory to Ben Askren? It doesn't make business sense I guess and lately we have seen that the business aspect of the UFC ALWAYS triumphs over the sporting aspect.
You look at the reality of the situation and the UFC never even made a decent offer to the guy for a reason.
The UFC is sports entertainment now guys.
You can't get on a high horse and talk down about pro wrestling fans anymore if you are a UFC fan, objectively speaking they are the same thing.
14-0 Olympian 2 time Hodge Trophy winner passed up over politics and the business aspect.
Disgusting.
I enjoyed reading this post.
Disgusting as fuck. Sign CM made me literally vomit a little in my mouth.
This is definitely not the ufc I fell in love with.
The JRE show is used as an avenue to further promote UFC fighters.
Rory got the JRE push, the UFC really hopes that he becomes next Champ desperately.
Rory is a very solid fighter who cuts lots of weight, but he's an amateur grappler compared to Ben I think it would be a fairly easy fight for Askren at this stage of their careers.
Rory is just getting his man strength, once he locked up with Ben his back would be broken down and he would be fighting off his back with the effectiveness of UFC superstar CM PUNK.
Question: If the UFC is "afraid" to sign Ben Askren in fear that he's a 6boring wrestler," why would they pair their #1 fighter pound for pound, biggest star currently fighting in the UFC in Jon Jones against an undefeated Olympic wrestler in Daniel Cormier?

First of all.
Cormier was on the same Olympic team as Askren and Cejudo, NONE of those fighters have lost in MMA yet. Combined record of 36-0.
MMA is easy to Olympic wrestlers.
Askren would walk through the UFC 170 LBS. division just like Cormier went through the UFC HW/LHW division.
We are not debating Askren's talent or how much success he would have, we are debating why he wasn't signed to begin with.
Cormier had his contract bought up during the Strikeforce acquisition, there is no analogy or comparison to be made with Cormier/Askren except for the fact they are Olympic wrestlers cut from the same UNBEATEN cloth.

Their hand was forced.
Cormier is 5'9 too, about the same height as Ben Askren fighting 6'5 Jon Jones..
The UFC thinks that Jones can win the fight, even if he can't they can make big money off the rematch.
The UFC ran from Ben Askren to protect their little Canadian investment, they want the GSP swag that Rory has.

A lot of Strikeforce Fighters weren't brought over to the UFC, if they didn't want him he would have been cut like King Mo, Paul Daley, and other fighters.
I disagree with the UFC's decision not to bring Askren in, I think it was an ego move, but also could have been a financial decision. It's my understanding Askren got a large contract with ONE FC correct? Perhaps the UFC didn't think he was worth the price, I'm not sure, I don't agree with the decision.
I just think the notion that they're scared a boring wrestler will beat their exciting fighters, especially Rory MacDonald (who people find t be more boring than Askren) is silly. Especially since two considerably "boring" fighters inDaniel Cormier (#1 contender against Jones) and Khabib Nurmagomedov (who if not injured would fight the most exciting fighter in the UFC in Pettis.)
EddiePain420 - it's because ben askren doesnt move our needles.Ha..now that's funny. Askren would run through Fitch like a warm knife through butter.
we should have askren vs jake shields in one fc, that will show askren clearly isnt ufc material.
i dont even think askren can beat jon fitch and if he does it will be by most boring way ever.

Askren's Olympic teammate Daniel Cormier fighting for the belt @ 205 while being 5'9 proves my point that Askren should be in the UFC in a #1 contender fight.

VTFU for interesting Cormier, Askren and Cejudo facts.

King Mo was released because he called a CSAC commissioner a "bitch" as well as failed a drug test.
UFC could of easily lifted their self-imposed ban on Daley, they chose not to. There were lots of Strikeforce guys who the UFC didn't pick up.
If they didn't want Daniel Cormier, they would not have picked up his contract
I can see it in these guys eyes when they do interviews and Ben's name comes up that they are a weird combination of scared and thankful that the UFC passed up on signing him.
Askren told Rory to his face that he would be an easy fight, I can only assume that Rory went up to his bosses and told them "make sure that guy never gets signed"
BirdWatcher - This is how Askren handles a dominant position.....
This is how DC handles his.....
Do you think that Ben would ride Rory around the cage like a bucking bronco in Canada?
How would the crowd react?
I like Rory by the way, he came across very well on the JRE, but he's still a 25 year old who was just getting crucifix mounted by Robbie Lawler 2 fights ago.
Unfortunately you're not going to stop Askren's grappling game with a couple front kicks and a jab.
There's nobody to blame for Ben not getting signed other than Ben.
You don't talk mad shit about the president and get signed. Especially when you are boring in the cage.
I have no doubt he would beat a lot of the UFC top10 welters, his skill is undeniable.
Insert Vince McMahon gif dubbed "Ben screwed Ben"

It's ironic that you finished that with "Bret screwed Bret". Almost everyone acknowledges that Bret Hart got the shaft from Vince. There's a very clear good guy and a very clear bad guy in that situation... much the same in the current situation.
As with the Montreal Screw Job, all of the power is in the hands of a large corporate machine. I'll never understand why people attach themselves to and cheer for a corporate machine that cares nothing about humans--never could and never will.
TTT for Ben Askren getting a shot in the big show where he belongs. In spite of his poor social skills.
In before not signing askren turns into a counter argument for the monopoly thing. "We don't have a strangle hold on the market, Ben askren is a Olympian and we can't sign him. This guy is over in Asian making tons of fucking money, and we haven't gotten him.. How could we be a monopoly then?" -dana white.
