The Very First MMA Videogame 1997

I was looking up Volk Han fights on youtube and ran across this game. It came out in Japan exclusively in 1997 for the PS1(or PSX in Japan). The name of the game is Fighting Network "Rings". I say first MMA game because its not a rasslin game or kickboxing game ala Fire Pro or K-1.

This game utilizes striking and submission which make it a true MMA game way back in 1997. I dont know if its actually the first MMA or RINGS game for that matter, but its very old.

Fighters include in the game:

Kiyosha Tamura

Tsuyoshi Kohsaka TK

Volk Han

Dick Vrij

and even

punching bag Yoshihisa Yamamoto is in it.

I was doing some more research and found out that this indeed was truly NOT the first MMA game. Astral Bout 1 came out in the early 90's follow by Astral Bout 2 in 1994 and Astral Bout 3 for the Super Famicom(SNES in the US). These games were also under the Fighting Network "Rings" banner.

Also there was a UWFi game released in 1995 by the name of- Saikyou Takada Nobuhiko pro wrestling made by Hudson soft.

Now that I know MMA games have been out a while and defenitly alot longer than I thought, where can I get these games and where can you find more info on these games.

UWFi and RINGS had games Im curious if PANCRASE had any games out?

So yes infact a MMA game came out before 1997 on the PS1 it came out before 1994 on SNES.

I bought a dreamcast just for that came when it came out.  I took the dreamcast and all back the next day too. 



Such a letdown.

The Prde game seems to be the best regarded, but its very flawed.

on dreamcast i had ufc and giant gram. i think giant gram played better but was more pro-wrestling. then fire pro d came along and that was all i played.

on ps2 the k-1 and k-1 grand prix were excellent. as was pride, it had its flaws but was way better than ufc. the ufc games on ps2 never improved over the dreamcast.

there was also king of collesium, pride grand prix and k-1 dynamite on ps2 but i never played those. i did read about a new fire pro game on ps2.

does anyone know if it's possible to d/l ps2 games online? i'd like to get some of the japanese games i never played - if i can get my hands on a chipped ps2.
