Folks, has anyone watched the HBO series The Wire? I just as a knee jerk reaction bought the box set today. I hope I have made a good decision? PS tried to search for threads on this but I found nothing? I would ahve thought there'd be something about it.
Everyone here will tell you it's the best show ever. I couldn't make it past 5 episodes.

Oh good, looks i have made a good snap decision to buy the box set as i could not be bothered downloading. I need something to watch as Game of Thrones won’t be on this yeat, and seeing as i liked The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire i thought i might like The Wire.
Possibly the best show ever made, but you have to slog through the 1st season, not becasue it is bad, but because it's difficult to keep up as the language isnt bumbed down, you'll love it by seaosn 2.
It's 100% worth sticking with it.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
First and 3rd seasons were my favorites. Going in just know that every season is completely different. A lot of people hate the second season because it felt like a different show than the first.
Just know the whole show is about the city of Baltimore and each season takes on a different aspect of it. Of course things and characters are mixed in but the main focus of each season has a different theme.

I couldn't make it through the first episoe I was bored out of my mind. The streets they use are all over the place and it is semi accurate...I work in the FD in Baltimore and there is some crazier shit than what I have heard the show has in it.
I really wanted to get into it. Was looking for the next series to binge after great shows like Sopranos and Breaking Bad.
I made it about halfway into season 3 then lost interest. It wasn’t bad–it’s just that nothing really hooked me about it.
It was a solid show, but it's vastly overrated.
