The WWE/UFC connection

I've read that Dana White has total respect for and looks up to Vince McMahon as a promoter. That being said, there are many similarities in how they both run their business, the major difference being that UFC results are real and WWE results are scripted.

However, the similarities are far too many to be ignored. Pitting two opponents against each other with verbal jabs and buildup is nothing new to the WWE but it's becoming more and more common in MMA. WWE fans generally know what's going on and just go along for the ride, whereas UFC fans claim 'bullshit' when exposed to the same mud-slinging tactics being applied more and more frequently in the buildup to UFC events.

While it's true that MMA fans are more aware and vocal when it comes to being 'played'...fans of both organizations, I believe, are being played nonetheless. The only difference, as I alluded to before, is that the results in the UFC are real. As far as I'm concerned, the WWE just has more time to dream up ludicrous plotlines because they write the whole thing, where the UFC has to pretty much wing it as things progress. Fighters such as Koscheck and Sonnen embrace the 'heel' role just like WWE wrestlers. They get fans riled up and willing to pay to watch them lose or win. If they lose, justice is done. If they win, haters are even more inclined to pay the next time they fight in the hopes that they lose this time.

I have no doubt that the UFC adds fuel to the fire whenever possible to build up the good guy/bad guy angle (Diaz/GSP) so that they can sit back and watch their profits grow. Some might consider it immoral to chew up and spit out fighters as soon as they lose their marketability, but it is what it is.

That being said, I personally don't care about the delivery system, as long as the fights themselves are real. People hate on Dana White a lot, but in the end he truly does try to put on the fights that the fans want to see. Forget about missed press conferences, missed weight, badmouthing your opponent, their country of origin, their wife, etc, and focus on the fight itself.

What do you think?

The only connection that I know of between the two has something to do with a penis tattoo.

LOL what? I must have missed that one!

They are both known by 3 letters.

I think these WWE/UFC threads are silly. It's like you've never watched a sport before MMA.

There is PLANNED, orchestrated drama in every sport. Football, soccer, basketball, boxing, ice skating, track and field...EVERY sport is promoted for maximum sensationalism. Storylines, beefs, bad guy/good guy, its all there. Hell, you even see this in ranked poker and ranked chess. lol

Let's move on.

Seriously, haven't you read the UG bef...

My God if I could quote this one million times lol. Jamie Sale, David Pelletier, Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze. Jesus Christ, at least at the end of it, our guys (combat athletes) are the only ones who don't "play". Think on that.

boxers, MMA, thai boxing, Judo, Jiu Jitsiu etc . . . . and then every other form of competition. Without question.

I think you probably thought that was gonna sound really clever and original when you posted it.

"gaaaah!!! People need to know that I've figured out the UFC and WWE have something in common!"
