Interesting article, talks about other cities doing the same thing in the past. Basically they just turf responsibility to the SO. So ... all the virtue, none of the accountability. If they do it that way it's a complete cop out and it'll be mostly the same guys just wearing different color uniforms.

Its moronic because the reality is that in any city on the planet SOMEONE is going to have to be authorized to use force against other people. That's just the reality of human beings.
They'll get rid of "police" and create "community angels." When someone is wanted for murder or armed robbery or rape or any other violent crime and doesn't turn themselves in willingly, those community angels are going to be involved in a shootout.
Whether you call them police or something else, does it really matter? If the point is to change the hiring and training and policies and oversight and method etc of law enforcement with these community angels, then that's just a round about way of having a reformed police department. So abolishing the police is yet another instance of virtue signaling retardation.
Unless of course they don't actually intend to enforce any laws.

He will use non-threatening dialogue and his understanding of his own white privilege to de-escalate intense situations involving violent criminals.

More than likely they will hire out a Sheriffs office instead of having a police force... it won’t be lawless, Hennepin Co Sheriff’s Office will cover more of MPLS than before

2019 stats. One of the top 4% worste cities in the U.S. for crime.
3468 violent crimes- close to 10 violent crimes a day.
35 murders
1229 Robberies- 3.5 robberies a day.
433 rapes- over 1 rape a day
1775 Assaults- 4 assaults a day
3139 burglaries- 9 a day.
2,227 vehicle thefts- over 6 a day.
12,246 Thefts- 33 a day.
These numbers will be light weight if they were to dismantle or cause extreme cuts in the budget to significantly lower the number of officers. It would be a fascinating experiment that would end in complete disaster within a month or two at the most.
I think it's all posturing. However, the city council makes the decisions on budgets and they are obviously extremely stupid. So.....
