Think You’ve Ever Changed Someone’s Mind Arguing..

...about politics over the internet?

No

Minor points yes. Not major paradigms though.

Yes. Some new drunk bully in college jabbed his finger in my chest and told me he could kick my ass.

Yes. Some new drunk bully in college jabbed his finger in my chest and told me he could kick my ass.

That was indeed quite the political statement.

It was also not on the internet.  I need to get into the habit of reading the OP every once in a while

Political discussions are also about sharing information, not just changing opinions. That’s a foolish goal when dealing with ideologues.

No, and you never will

No one ever says “Wow, that intelligently thought out argument that used terms like “libtard” and “Cuck” completely changed my political world view”

It has happened in real life. It takes time though. They wont admit it during the argument but years later when the subject is brought back up they are agreeing with me. I never call them out on it.

I have had my mind changed as well but I tell the other person that they were right.

Oh ya .. especially family lololol

You need a pretty strong personal relationship to even get someone to listen to a point that completely contradicts their own. It’s not happening over the internet.

Negative. Giant waste of time imo

My girlfriend has seen some of the stuff I've discussed prior to us getting together. When we met she was anti trump even posted on Snapchat how the world was ending when he was elected. She said to me the other day how shes getting tired of all the hate on the left and can see my POV on shit I talk about. Has she changed no but now she sees there are two sides to every story and the truth lues in the middle

Nope. Its a huge waste of time.

Some of it can be entertaining....but most of it is a bunch of idiots (me included) trying to internet yell louder at the other. Its extremely pathetic and immature.....and like i said, i am guilty of it and not proud.

And name calling. Lots of name calling.

Fuck no. Do you realize how much this place would suck if we started being civil and listening to each other? Oh, the horror, the horror

Yes, they originally thought they agreed with me and left believing the opposite.

On something like a forum, the discussion I think is more effective to those who read/lurk rather than participate. Thats why I think some of the CTers need to be argued against. It isnt the two extremes arguing who are affecting each others opinions and thoughts. Its those on the fence or are new to the discussion being influenced by those talking.

Came here to say something along these lines. Well put.
