This is how glove touch should be done

ArmbarKing - No. They have an opportunity to touch gloves when they meet in the center of the octagon. If they want to do it again after the ref says go, then it's up to them to risk it. Why the hell would they bring them to the center to go over the rules, have them go back to their corners, say lets get it on, have them come out expressly to touch gloves, then back to their corners, and say okay now fight. Makes no sense.

To be clear, if a fighter throws a cheap shot off a glove touch I think they are a total piece of shit.

I agree with this.

Once the fight starts it’s time to fight. Stop the buddy-buddy sparring atmosphere type of stuff and win your fight.

If you look for a glove touch again after the ref already gave you that opportunity, you deserve a cheap shot. Protect yourself at all times.

I don’t think you deserve one but you have yourself to blame if you catch a false crack.

Anyone remember Donald cerrone getting dropped by Paul Kelly going in for the glove touch? That one was the biggest cheap shot I remember seeing. Donald went in hands way up in the air for a touch and got slugged and dropped. Went on to win by sub.

Otlwgt - Heres the Cheap Shot I talked about.

I dont really consider it a full blown sucker punch but it is definately a cheap shot…

This guy got hammered on a fake glove touch

And that is certainly technically true, and it is just as qualitatively true that those that want to engage in a cheap shot are pieces of shit.

Sportsmanship is valuable and appreciated because of the fact its not technically anything you are required to engage in. It is what you do even though no one is forcing you to, that defines your quality of character.

Scumbags have no compass on the above and think anything up to the edge of the rules is fine, legal is legal etc.

Which brings me to my next point even though I hate scumbags getting visibility in the sport since I’ve been around long enough to be in the fight for credibility in the early 2000’s - is sportsmanship something we really need to formally structure in?

It’s great for ensuring the image of the sport by cutting down on televised cheap shot potential, but I don’t know if there’s a way to effectively do that via official glove touch time without it being really clunky and contrived. Agree with ArmbarKing on this one.

It makes me cringe when fighters hug.

Kinda glad Korean Zombie got KO'd even though I was rooting for him. He was winning 3-1 in the last round and kept hugging and kissing Yair then got KTFO... like take it seriously this is a fight. Imagine hugging someone before he gives you brain damage and CTE... save that shit for after the fight.
