Now that there is isolated coverage of UFC's, where would one find results of prelims and such for grading purposes? If players end up having 2 wait for games/fights to be graded to free up money, its going to discourage action on the events. If people cant bet it, they are less inclined to watch it. Just another HUGE % of the MMA viewing population that someone neglected to consider when making the general media ban. I imagine UFCTv wont be updating considering they dont even have a mug shot of Pete Sell and 5 other guys up yet for Friday card. Looks like MNF will prevail. This is simply brutal.
That is why you need to ban mma 'media' people. Remember, they don't dress right. Because of their poor dress habits they can not be trusted to post authentic photos and breakdowns of new fighters. After all, they are not real journalists.
Better to have a gray silhouette or 'no image available' and minimum statistical information on the fighters rather than the giant host of fake fighter information put out by the mma media.
I spoke to their Lawyer months ago and got the green light for the Oddessa brand to sponsor fighters. We had what I thought was a verbal agreement. Well, thousands of dollars later Evan Tanner, Paul Buentello, and Joe Riggs were denied to even have the Oddessa Logo patch (no words just a fighter pic) on their trunks.
They use people up and toss them out. I havent seen Sheridan on the PPV's, I guess because they were looking to get in USA Today and give gambling credibilty to the UFC. Now is it true that Goldberg was hired by the WWE or did they get rid of him too? Who knows.
Anyways, I imagine my letter would fall upon deaf ears. UFC is going in a different direction.
My money says this is just a page from the Bush playbook, aimed at controlling coverage.
Before long, some site, or handful of sites, will agree to "get on board" and report only what will not ruffle UFC feathers, in order to gain back "behind the scenes" access. Everybody else will tend to follow suit.
Dour prediction, in a general kind of way, I guess, but that is what happened to mainstream media viz the Bush adminstration's ploys to control the messengers.
Bright side for books, when the online sites do get access back, probably their "news" reports won't be as truthful, variegated, or useful (because self-censored) for fans/bettors.
And that would mean MO MUNNY on the dollar for you, Mr. Odessa. ;)
"The fights are on TV. If people want to bet, they should watch the fights. I don't get how this affects betting. Don't most bettors watch what they bet on?
-knee "
I believe what Odessa is saying is that since there is a media ban and the prelim results aren't readily available as they happen, people who bet on the prelims would not know the outcome of their bets before the next fights began, meaning there is a freeze on your account and you can't bet more on the next fight. And if you've ever bet, you know that how you do on the first few fights affects hwo you bet on the later fights. This also affects ratings cause if a better can't participate in the action as it is happening, like Odessa said, they are less inclined to watch the event.
The UFC needs competition from another US based fight organization. They have a monopoly on the US marget and would never be able to get away with these types of practices if there was an alternative organization to support.
Sawdusk is correct about what I meant. MMA is such a small part of the overall bizness the sportsbooks write, that it really wouldnt matter if they offered it or not. It just gives books exposure to a wider market. I have been a amatuer wrestling, and boxing fan since I was 9 and MMA fan since I saw my 1st UFC. I would watch it if there was betting on it or not. We just thought it would be a good idea about 5 years ago and we ran with it.
I persoinally dont care for the TUF reality shows though. I just think all the getting drunk, pissing on beds, and swearing in season 1 made MMA and the fighters look pretty shitty.
