Cole Harbour, NS –
TJ Grant has re-signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, committing to four more fights in the famed UFC octagon.
“I want to challenge myself against the best fighters in the world,” says Grant. “And the only place to do that is the UFC. I’m thrilled to continue fighting in the world’s elite organization.”
The signing comes on the heels of a stunning victory. Grant (15-3) won a $65,000 US KO of the night bonus Saturday for a right hook that crumpled Kevin Burns as part of UFC 107 in Memphis, TN.
Grant’s coach and manager Scott MacLean negotiated the new UFC deal. “TJ has a bright future in the UFC,” says MacLean. “We believe he could break into the welterweight division’s top ten in the new year.”
No future opponents have been announced for Grant. But the Cole Harbour mixed martial artist has his eye on a proposed UFC event in Montreal in May 2010.
“I love fighting in Montreal,” says Grant, who made his victorious UFC debut in Montreal in May. “The crowd is awesome. It’s like a home away from home for me.”
TJ Grant is the only Nova Scotian on the UFC roster. He trains at FitPlus MMA in Dartmouth.
Grant credits his FitPlus teammates for his success in the cage. “These guys sacrifice to help me prepare,” he explains. “When I enter the octagon, I know I’m not alone. My teammates are with me every step of the way.”
