Tommy "The Duke" Morrison (vid)

This vid gave me the chills. This guy was so talented, had one the the most devastating left hooks in heavyweight boxing.

48-3-1 (42 KO's)

RIP.

Too bad he was borderline retarded and got HIV and also was a complete drunk and fucked up most of his opportunities in life by getting drunk and spreading his HIV around.

There was a lot of money left on the table when that fight never happened.

id say alcohol was the least of his substance issues. he was a meth guy.

He took full responsibility and was very transparent about his disease.

Still doesn't take away from his legacy as a boxer imo.

Transparent?  He learned he had it in '89 and kept it a secret until what...'95??

Yeah at first he took full responsibility...

"In a press conference after the news broke, Morrison seemed to take ownership of the results, stating that his lifestyle led to this. For the next few months, he started a foundation to raise money for AIDS awareness."

But then...

"Somewhere along the line, Morrison decided that he did not have HIV, that he would not get AIDS, and that this was all a grand conspiracy against him. Apparently, he had convinced himself through reading on the internet that it was not possible that he could have HIV. Basically, from the late '90s on, he became an HIV denier. He didn't take his medication. He lived his life how he wanted to. However, what was worse, he would go on and have unprotected sex with not only his wife at the time, but other women over the years."

Very sad what happened to Tommy.

Resnik makes amazing boxing highlights.

His Sonny Liston video is amazing and gives me chills.

He had an excessive personality according to that 30 for 30.

He was trying to live like Rick Flair, but wasn’t Rick Flair.

I don't believe that to be true. That was never found to be factual. The guy couldn't maintain his levels and fool all those blood tests.

How would a guy have 30 fights with HIV? Fighting Big George with HIV? I highly doubt it.

His Mother is bat shit crazy and his wife was paid by tabloids for saying that stuff.

I met him at an event in FL where he was a guest judge. This was in the mid 2000's and he was a shell of his former self but I will never forget that handshake. It was like shaking hands with a bear trap. From that handshake, I knew that was a strong MFer.

You know what's crazy? Mike Tyson has lived an equally reckless life or even more so than Tommy and he has come out unscathed.

They were trying to feed Tommy to Tyson but that was the time when Buster Douglas KO'd Tyson.

That could have been Morrison.

That was a very appropriate song selection for a Morrison highlight video.

It has been the ruin of many a poor boy, and God I know I’m one.

^ i liked rocky 5 as well and i thought morrison did well in it as far as acting boxers are concerned. also, was very strange how the plot about gunns downfall in the film mirrored morrisons downfall in real life, ie. getting too heavy with partying women and running with the wrong crowd.

There are a lot of people on record saying he had known since '89.  Friends, doctors, rehab counselors, media personnel/interviewers who heard him bragging about fooling people for so long, his wife, his mom, and even the NAC,

"More than 20 years later, a new twist to the story has emerged in court documents filed in June. The Nevada Athletic Commission admits in paperwork that Morrison appears to have been diagnosed as HIV positive in 1989, seven years before the positive test that ended his above-board career. This is in spite of the Nevada Athletic Commission having required HIV testing since 1988."

It seems that it wouldn't have been hard to get around the tests due to how the requirements were laid out at the time.
