Toney beating Couture will be good for the sport

A James Toney win will bring a whole different crowd and level of competition to the sport similar to what Lesnar achieved. A lot more boxers will cross over and bridge the gap in strking the same way pro-wrestling connoisseurs Lashley, Batista etc have brought a whole different level of wrestling to the sport.

Not to mention the bigger paydays that come with a lights out victory.

True fans of combat sports would understand MMA NEEDS Toney to KO couture for the betterment of the sport.

I'm rooting for Toney.
Only haters of MMA who want it to fail would do otherwise.

It will be terrible for the sport. All the boxing pundits will cite Toney beating Coture "our sports legend" whenever boxing vs mma gets brought up.

I don't see that being the apocolypse of MMA, especially since it might mean that more boxers cross over for paydays. If nothing else, MMA would adapt and we might see tighter striking.

he would immediately get a shot at the lesnar/cain winner and get decimated...the victory would be short lived in other words.

I Hate You!

Hollywood Randy is gonna get KTFO.

I am not a huge toney fan but like "the natural" even less

i would love to see toney's gold belt in action or a ko!

Yeah, James Toney will be a great representative for MMA and the UFC. lol

Toney embodies the true martial artist spirit by fighting anyone anywhere. Randy wouldn't dare enter a boxing ring and holds the title hostage demanding more money. If Toney wins it will progress the sport while if Couture happens to wins he will go back to fighting B level guys.

I will SN bet anyone that Toney takes this.

TTT for any man brave enough.

It would be terrible for the perception of the sport by boxing fans, but in absolutely no way would it be bad for the sport itself. The fact that it would make MMA fans embarassed or something is a different issue altogether.

I agree that Toney winning would be best for the sport. It would mean a greater financial windfall, and it would be a much bigger deal in the media if Toney won - everybody would hear about it, and more boxers would try to crossover. It would mean more money which would lead to a bigger talent pool, which means better fighters and more depth.

Now of course in no way does MMA "need" Toney to win, that's ridiculous. Toney winning would be good for MMA, but it wouldn't alter the face of the sport or anything. It would be a significant, but not earth-shattering impact. But it would be a positive impact.

Toney by KO

Too bad this is as likely as the Lions winning the superbowl.

Randy by TKO 0:38 RD 1.

I'm rooting for Toney just to see so many UG'ers cry.

Yes, the two biggest pro wrasslin' trolls of the UG know what is good for MMA.

fail

Dan Severn walked to the cage at UFC 4 with a pro wrestling belt(NWA) held high and had pro wrestler(Al Snow) in his corner that night.

I got a feeling that Toney has a good shot in this fight.
There is mma striking and BOXING/K-1 striking. Look at the level of striking that Anderson Silva/Cro Cop/Hunt have relative to the normal mma'er. 1 punch from Toney has the ability to win the fight.

Randy has gone from ground and pound to Wall and Stall. His dirty boxing wont accomplish much as boxers can take punches much better then common mma'ers. Randy has to take him down asap and I have not liked his head/foot movement as well as his stance in his last 5 fights.
