While Mercer/Sylvia was embarrassing, I think it's more in how it happened. The crappy promotion, the whole is it a boxing or is it an mma match before it even happened, the stupid trash talk, and how he went in and got ko'd on the first punch, the whole thing was kind of a joke.
And don't forget Mayorga either, not counting that guy out of anything. Hell you hear from fighters all the time how much of the sport is actually mental. These boxers coming in are tough as nails and have heart, know how to train, can give and deliver punches better than anyone currently in MMA.
How many younger "boxers" are going to be watching Toney and Mayorga and see how they do.... Sure this might be starting with the older bigger names, but I can see it getting more boxers interested in the sport.

No, it won't. Mercer was 18 years removed from being heavyweight champion when he KO'd Sylvia in less than 10 seconds. Sylvia was the UFC heavyweight champ two years prior. I can't see anything matching that unless Ken Shamrock were to maul a guy like Samuel Peter in a boxing ring. What's done is done.
