I have been training with Tony's techniques for a few months now and love it. I have just came across the Farmer Burns and Matt Furey stuff. Can anyone enlighten me on how this compares to Tony? Thanks.
It does not compare, forget about Matt Furey and stick with Tony Cecchine, do a search on Furey and you will find that Furey is a complete and utter FRAUD.
I have purchased both Tony Cecchine's tapes and Matt Furey's tapes and books. I have not met either man personally so I am only basing this on the quality of information and instruction from their videos and books. IMO Cecchine's products are far superior. His Lost Art of Hooking is amazing and very helpful to anyone who wants to improve their ground game. I myself have used his techniques to help me tap out some higher ranked opponents. Matt Furey's vids were nothing special but I did enjoy his Combat Conditioning book and think it is very useful but many have told me that Scrapper's Mod 1 workout has the same techniques and more! In the end, I will only continue to order TCs products due to it already helping me in my real training where Furey's stuff seems imcomplete and inpractical! Just my opinion folks!
oh yeah, and Cecchine's products are a hell of a lot cheaper. Furey's cost like an arm and a leg for lesser quality information.
matt used to be tony's student for a while.......i introduced them.
Matt has been ridiculed a lot here but he is a NCAA div 2 champ trained under Gable and Baumgartner and Karl Gotch. He has an legit pedigree
"Matt used to be Tony's student for a while"
Really??? Furey never mentions Tony at all in any of his products or articles. All he talks about is Karl Gotch and how he's the God of Catch! So what happened between the 2 of them?
He does not mention TONY CECCHINE because Matt "the FRAUD" Furey KNOWS that TONY CECCHINE IS the god of catch wrestling!
I only know Tony C and Furey through their videos and products and I must say the best quality and even quanity is from Tony C. I do like the Combat Conditioning book that MF has but Tony's Lucky 13 tape is a pure KILLA! I got sore and tired just from watching it.
if i didn't have personal experiences with him i would probably think he's a good guy, too.
but then again, good guys don't let grandma wonder the street so he can catch a thug.
BruceL, I remember when his website told that BS
story! LOL
BTW, the Catch tapes straiing you and Tony C. are
awesome! Is the ICWA expanding as far as students
and schools? So far there seems to be a lack of
genuine Catch schools, which is a damn shame.
"A lack of genuine Catch schools, which is a damn shame"
Amen to that
"Good guys don't let grandma wonder the street alone so he can catch a thug"
RMAOOFL!!! WTF! Thats the weirdest thing I've ever heard (besides talking to Farmer Burn's ghost). Mr. Lee, I can tell you want to let some built in, frustrating info out so you let out these little teases everyone once and a while. Please do tell, so I know if I should look up Furey for privates or not when I go to Florida next summer (since Tony C has never contacted me back).
Thanx bro.
Bruce,
So does Tony still hate you for introducing them :) lol.
I have zero respect for Furey after hearing all the crap I have. I can tell you this after meeting Tony in person. He is the real deal and so is Bruce and everyone that trains with Tony. Tony is a hell of a nice guy, straight forward, and tough as nails.
I wouldnt train with anyone else.

FYI, check out this month's Blackbelt magazine (with David Carridine of Kung Fu & Kill Bill fame on the cover), Theres a real cool article on Tony Cecchine and Catch Wrestling in there!!!
Tony C. is the real deal!!!
Can someone please enlighting me on Matt Furey. All I hear is pessimistic views about this guy.
Why? What makes him a fraud?
Why all the hatred?
I've purchased several of his tapes and have had success with several of his techniques.
What am I missing here?
Instead of name calling, explain what makes him bad and a fraud, Please.
Thanks,
Grappling Joe
Matt is all about the Benjamins.
He is a fad rider. He'll switch his allegiances without a thought to whatever-whoever will make him more money.
He learned just about squat from Tony and then went around proclaiming himself a Catchwrestler.
After Tony kicked him to the curb, it took a while, but Matt managed to hook up with Karl Gotch. He was with Gotch about a year before Gotch kicked him to the curb. Keep in mind that Gotch had double hip replacement shortly after(recuperation time?) his association with Furey and Furey stated that Karl won't teach you any Catch until you had done two years of conditioning first. So who knows what, if anything Furey learned from Gotch.
The bottom line is that Tony has been doing this since he was a teenager and Matt has less that one year combined training between Tony and Gotch. I have more training in Catch than Matt. Knowing wrestling helps, can't take that away from him, but Catch is so much more than Amatuer Wrestling.
PS-Matt also claims to speak to Ghosts, namely Farmer Burns. He charges a fortune for material that is available for free on the net.
"Knowing wrestling helps, can't take that away from him, but Catch is so much more than Amatuer Wrestling. "
High school and college wrestling (folkstyle) IS catch wrestling , just with the submissions removed to make it sporting.
Therefore
If you have proficiency in folkstyle (read: Amatuer Catch) then it more than "helps" - it is a must.
