Too many Dbags in BJJ now

it seems more in the last two years that a ton of young side way wearing hats, d-bags are training BJJ we have three or four new douches every monday...i hope some actually stay more than a few months so many we can mold them into jiujitsu fighters.

the Main UG forum is full of these types, the best are the one who state so Matter-of-factly about tech. and such they know dick about. It sickens me how they dilute our art.

on the main UG forum there is a post about MG and i'm like"how the fuck do these newbs know shit"

just tired of it and wanted to vent to the REAL forum

I strongly agree. Any time somebody starts and thinks they are just that much better than anyone and try to potray that through their actions and speech, I make it a priority to tap them as many times as possible in under a minute. As you can imagine it doesn't take long for them to get a clue.

I don't think I know one douchebagg above white belt.

i agree also...i was just venting about how many are trying it out...once they stay for awhile we change them for the better. many i'm just getting to be an "old guy"

i don't think a know any dbaggs above white either...they usually don't last

Anarkis - I found BJJ is the perfect sport to handle this issue. The DBags either quit after a weak, or they are humbled by the sport and evolve as people. Very rarely does a Dbag stay a Dbag in BJJ.

I don't know man, I'm a purple and I'm still quite an exceptional douche-bag.

Hell, I would go as far as to say I'm probably a brown belt in D-baggin.

i think once you get to purple it's gone. I know a couple blue belt dbags. Or like they are humbled until they get to 4-stripes. Then, once they make a transition to blue, they think they're the shit for a while and rehash that d-bag stuff...Then, after getting destroyed by higher ranks for a bit either humble or are gone.

Purple is the border in my eyes

I'm not so sure...

An acquaintance/old training partner who is a Black Belt at one of the larger, more established --and famous-- BJJ schools in L.A. told me a few years ago they used to joke that to get your brown belt from the school you had to commit a felony because so many upper belts from the school had been arrested.

I think you can change people's behavior IN the dojo pretty easily. If they don't quit, they tend to become "humble" in class because they get schooled all the time.

But to assume that is a true "personality change" which carries over into other aspects of life... I'm not so convinced.

Martial Arts CAN be a tool to help improve someone's character (as can just about anything else) but I don't believe it automatically does so.

The martial arts are filled with plenty of great people, but there are also LOTS of kooks, egomaniacs, sociopaths, frauds and predators.

Compare the "character" of martial artists as a group to people who are into say, collecting stamps and overall I would bet money the philatelists would come out ahead.

I know a blue belt who is a complete d-bag. Constantly telling people he should be purple, and he criticizes everyone his belt and lower. For instance, a white belt swept another from bottom half guard and goes on to submit from the top. The d-bag said, "yeah well I would've d'arced you in 2 seconds if you tried that on me."

I could go on, but he's not worth talking about. I also saw a white belt at NAGA that looked like one of the guys from Jersey shore, who was saying out loud that he taps blues all the time and this is nothing. He got subbed on his first match.

hmmm...I wonder what gym shen speaks of, lol.

raleigh - hmmm...I wonder what gym shen speaks of, lol.

I heard it was some guy named Ricky Grace's gym or something. Guy claims to be 400-0 or something.

Felon Factory Fight Team

Thankfully BJJ does weed them out.. but unfortunately, not all.
I personally know one douchebag that has made it to black belt and is as much it hurts to admit..is actually pretty good.

At the place I train it the main instructor would simply tell them to leave and never come back if he ever witnessed and behavior that is D-baggy.

I personally saw him ask a guy to never come back who had been training for almost a year because he went on some d-bagg rant about his wife and baby.

No f-n kidding!

No.

--Although that brings up a point-- He too basically had a youth gang of wannabe thugs kids operating out of his school. Sorts like a real-life Pacific Palisades Cobra-Kai.

So if "the living legend of the BJJ" can't influence kids in his school not to be thugs, what hope is there for any other BJJ school?

I agree most ego's cannot handle BJJ or most combat sports. They fade out quickly. Phone Post

Sensei is not a 'd-bag'. You sir, are a hater and a douchebag.

Among his many other accomplishments, Sensei is a DIRECT student under Eddie Bravo. He holds a purple shirt under Eddie, studies BJJ under Keith Owen, and he is also a Japanese Jujutsu and Aikido BLACK BELT.

He's been 'doing the martial arts thing' since 1984 and is currently the Vice President of the Jiu Jitsu BC Society (2010-2011).

198fucking4 bitches.

^^^ Who is this Sensei you speak of? He should put out some youtube instuctionals or something cuz I'd like to see his work.

lol @ now this has been the way for as long as i can remember.

Naw man. You're not talking about Ricky. You are talking about Rick's son.

Anyway, this thread is silly. Douchebags have always been apart of this sport. You can argue that this sport got credibility strictly through douchebag behavior.

Ask the "founding fathers" They were getting into fights at clubs and beaches. Normal people don't do that. Than they come over to America and start fights in other people's dojos, and videotape it knowing that the people they are challenging have no idea what they are getting into.

Other people see these douchebags and they want in on some of the fun.

I got started in 2001 and the upperbelts were totally cool. After a tournament we go to a private club party, they get drunk and than start talking about tapping out the bouncer for no reason.

These were upper belts, and nice guys in the gym, but take off the bias goggles and they were assholes. Oh yeah, they were in their 30's too.

Since the ability to beat people up drew a lot of people into BJJ and MMA I think their were initially more D-bags. Now thanks to family friendly franchises like Gracie Barra and their "Jiu Jitsu for everyone. :) " model, their are actually fewer meatheads.

im way more of a dbag now
