Too Much UFC?

Too many UFC events?  Concerned about oversaturation?  afraid you're not gonna be able to keep up?...

Ponder this:

332 NFL games a year including playoffs.

380 premiere league (soccer) games a year.

1230 NHL games a year plus playoffs.

1230 NBA games a year plus playoffs.

2430 MLB games a year plus playoffs.

Compare this to only 31 UFC events with the initial fox contract (4 fox shows, 8 fx, 6 fuel and roughly 13 ppv's a year).

if you support every major market in the world with an annual UFC event you're gonna have around 100 events a year...  which still pales in comparison to the list above

So let's look at around 100 ufc events a year (1 event every wednesday and 1 event every weekend - where every week would look similar to the past 7 days)

100 events a year is nothing compared to the amount of events being produced by other leagues/sports.

Even the WWE produces 100 events a year (raw plus smackdown).  People are afraid about too much UFC and we're only at 31 last year and 33 this year.

You can already see the acceleration and increase in progress... Compared to last year you would need only 7 more fight nights to match the output this year but instead there are 9 scheduled.  Events are being added ala carte.   Zuffa announced intentions of going to Turkey, Poland, Ireland, scotland and germany along with england and sweden in 2014.  This is in addition to the Singapore and Macau events already announced.  You also have the philippines on deck for 2014, mexico, a return to japan etc...

Is the roughly 100 UFC events a year eventuality too much?  not when you compare it to 2,430 Major League baseball games it isnt... Not when you have a network (FS1) starving for content, who is also willing and capable of subsidizing the venture it isnt...  And certainly not when you have people all over the world wanting a live UFC event with overseas TV deals to be had.

As an MMA fan this is something to celebrate not something to piss and moan over.

Definitely not too much ufc going on. Good post. But... Very few would watch every game in every league of sports. You may watch your team which brings down the amount watched dramatically.

Also, looking at the next 10 headliners I so freakin excited, all looking awesome into 2014 Phone Post 3.0

No. Phone Post 3.0

The NHL is oversaturated.. There I said it.

I've been an MMA fan for almost 20 years. I remember the dark days. Fucking fans are so spoiled these days. Too many UFCs....get that bullshit out of here. Phone Post

There is no such thing as playoffs in the Premier League.

Stupid comparisons. Phone Post 3.0

No one watches all of those games from those sports. People usually have a team that they follow and everything else they just look at stats online.

Either way I would be cool with 2 events per week.

No. The more ufc the better. Sure helps to break up the work week or get me thru it knowing an event is gonna be on. I love it Phone Post 3.0

I'm hoping for two events a week and maybe only the bug fights in ppv (once a month - I know I can dream)

Weekly fights on fox can build stars and less ppv would mean HUGE numbers if the cards are stacked Phone Post

I don't think there too much UFC. Only if they were all PPV that would be different. Phone Post 3.0

Kind of difficult to compare to these commercial sports. Here in the UK there are thousands of soccer games also but I wouldn't say I watch every game. I just watch my team and of course the big games. The UFC is different in this way because most fans would actually watch every event. Me personally, I would love more UFC. But some UK fans would struggle to stay up til 5am twice a week to watch it live.
For some reason watching it live has way more excitement than when it has been recorded. Phone Post

But have loved these past few weeks with all these fights. So the more the merrier for me. Phone Post

Cannot make that comparison simply because the NFL has townbased team where each team has the local support of their town/region.

The nr of hardcore NFL fans that watch season league game that have no connection with either town is I would say small. Now come playoffs more and more fans watch the games. Hell I even watch the superbowl now and then and I dont care of american football at all...

Comparison only makes sense if you look at the PLAYOFFS games in nfl and somewhat compare em to the nr of TITLEFIGHTS that the UFC put on.. But even that doesnt give a clear picture of comparison..

Hardcore fans = gonna watch alot of UFC not caring if its a titlefight or not. But the general mainstream will not watch the UFC unless its big fights = The amount that the UFC can/will be able to grow is narrowing. Why do you think the UFC has added more weightdivisions and women = Titlefights are a draw for the casual fan...

With this said the UFC has a big potential to Expand on its international market and thus adding more and more shows.

I would be all game for a european champion and even a swedish ufc champion in the future. That would generate the interest for the swedes and as the swede fights the german for the european belt then the interest is peaked in those 2 nations...

too much to be paying $50 for on ppv.

all those other sports op mentioned are free.

Theres months were i feel theres not enough. Around march april every year ufc goes on a long stretch with nothing but tuf, and at the same time as a pro wresting fan that time of year sucks because every one is getting ready for wrestlmaina Phone Post 3.0

To be honest, as a fan from the UK who loves to watch the fights live, even though they are on extremely late at night here, I'm finding the recent Wednesday / Saturday / Wednesday block of events a bit too much.

Also, I don't really see why UFC needs to follow the same path as the other sports mentioned which are successful, but still oversaturated.

Personally, I'd much rather see a focus on quality over quantity with significantly less events, making each completely stacked with 4-5 must-see, high-profile fights guaranteed on the main card.

That brings several benefits, including bigger PPV numbers per event, bigger live gates and more of a cushion if there's injury call-offs. I think it'd also bring a 'feel good' factor amongst fans, rather than the sense of fatigue that comes with too many shows in a short space of time, and the resentment that comes when a show is badly weakened by injuries.

Wrong comparison.

People view football games in 4 increments weekly.

Even if you click like an ADHD monkey on crack you aren't watching more football than the 1pm, 4pm, 8pm Sunday games, MNF and the Thursday game.

With baseball it's about the 162 YOUR team plays and only your extreme hardcore fans watch all 162 of their team.

UFC also isn't WWE where there are STORYLINE reasons to watch so many shows and even WWE is wrong for 3 hours on a Monday night.

The UFC lacks stars to have this many events.

Who would jump because Eddie Wineland is in a main event?

Does that sell tickets or PPV buys?

The UFC brand name is what is selling once you get past GSP, Jones, Ronda and MAYBE Cain/JDS.

UFC isn't MLB, NFL or WWE and viewing habits greatly differ for noted reasons.

No matter your spin, it's too many events based on current PPV ratings, TV ratings and ticket sales for non-star events. Phone Post

Zufflogic showing his true colors once again. Lol at someone watching 332 nfl games.. You're counting every team and that they are always shown.

Lets count the number of events per year now, with how many fights on the cards etc... Its becoming super saturated and the stars arent being replaced. Phone Post 3.0
