For the purpose of this exercise, we'll take each fighter's last 6 fights and weigh them against everyone else's last 6 fights.
To keep it current, forget about anything older than 3 years. If you can't average 2 fights per year, then too bad for you. :)
So we award points for a win, deduct points for a loss.
The number of points depends on the rank of that opponent.
The rank of that opponent depends on his/her win loss record and the rank of their opponents, their opponents, their opponents... so on, so on, down the line.
So mathematically, here's the top 10...
#1 Ricardo Arona (6-0) opponent's avg rank = 182
#2 Josh Barnett (6-0) opponent's avg rank = 182
#3 Vitor Ribiero (6-0) opponent's avg rank = 267
#4 Fedor Emelienenko (6-0) opponent's avg rank = 388
#5 Tim Sylvia (6-0) opponent's avg rank = 410
#6 Vanderlei Silva (5-0-1) opponent's avg rank = 522
#7 Matt Hughes (5-1) opponent's avg rank = 164
# 8 Rodrigo Nogueira (5-1) opponent's avg rank = 164
#9 Jennifer Howe (6-0) opponent's avg rank = 611
#10 Akihiro Gono (6-0) opponent's avg rank = 656
Shouldn`t Josh Thomson be on that list? I know he is Un-defeated.
Josh IS undefeated but a number of his opponent's are fairly unsucessful.
With the criteria listed above, Josh is (6-0) but opponents avg rank = 1485
Consider the fact that 3 of his recent wins are against;
Victor Estrada (1-4-1)
Doug Evans (0-4)
Kajan Johnson (2-4)
