I was looking at some of the books that 8weeksout posted on the "Best personal training Cert for Elite Trainers thread"
and they seem excellent. But some of them are quite expensive or at least the text books.
What do you pros suggest would be a good top 5 or 10 in reading material.
I'm no trainer well outside of my "Curves MMA Team" j/k, But I do like to learn as much as i can from the best possible sources.
I'm no expert either, but there are the book/resources I've found most helpful:
'Science and Practice of Strength Training' by Zatsiorsky
'Explosive Power and Jumping Ability for All Sports' by Starzynski & Sozanski Short and practical, but very dense guide to plyometrics.
'Facts and Fallacies of Fitness' by Mel Siff
'Supertraining' also by Siff (it's a slog as Siff often complicates topic more so than is helpful, but some chapters are gold)
There are some really cool free articles at
www.verkhoshansky.com . . . it will require some imagination to apply the information. In trans he's actually an easier read that Siff.
http://www.higher-faster-sports.com/ . . . I love Kelly Baggett. Good 'no BS' articles on practical application of strength training and plyometrics.
nice choices Harry Lime
I just recently discovered Kelly Baggett about a year or so ago. Fantastic articles
I agree with all of HarryLime's choices and of course the ones I offered in the other thread. I'll also add to the list my new book Ultimate MMA Conditioning, but I'll admit I'm a bit biased :) You can't go wrong with any of the books Harry or I mentioned, don't worry about the top 10 just start reading the least expensive ones or read through some of them on google books and look around libraries in the area, especially university libraries, and used book resellers online. You should be able to pick them all up for pretty reasonable or find bits of pieces of them all online for free.
thanks
