Top ten 155 lbers in the UFC

Curious to see what order fight fans would rank the top ten lightweights that are currently fighting in the UFC. No other organizations. There are so many fighters in this weight class right now. It's hard to tell who should fight who and in what order they are moving up the ladder closer to a shot at the belt.

 1. BJ

2. Sherk

3. Florian

4. Stevenson

5. Edgar

6. Griffin

6. Huerta

7. Guida

8. Hermes

9. Aurelio

10. Tavares

10. Fisher

11. Nate Diaz

12. Din

13. Pellegrino

14. Clementi

15. Stout

16. Lauzon

17. Maynard

18. Neer

19. Etim

20. Bocek

That's just off the top of my head, so I'm open to any logical changes.  Lauzon may be too low, and perhaps Grice should be on the list.

Good list, it probably should include Mac Danzig.

Good list. Danzig should be on and maybe lauzon should be up a few. I like that Diaz is at 11. A little overrated imo.

 Thanks.

I'm not trolling with Nate, although he is probably too high (pun intended?).  Mac should be on there for sure, but at the bottom of the list IMO.  Who's his biggest win?  Ireland, Speer or Buddy Clinton?  Losing competitively to Batman, Clay French and Mach only goes so far, IMO.

I think Din's a little low for having beaten Guida. I would take him over Pellegrino and Franca as well.

Mathamuticus - I think Din's a little low for having beaten Guida. I would take him over Pellegrino and Franca as well.

Both Pellegrino and Din have 2 recent losses, but Din has higher quality wins against top competition.  I'll edit my post to exchange their spots on the list.

maynard just beat edgar?? why is he below edgar

FLAWLESSVICTORY - maynard just beat edgar?? why is he below edgar

Because that's really the first significant win Gray's had in MMA against decent competition.  Edgar's already beaten Fisher, Bocek, and Tyson Griffin who are all top fighters.

I know he has only had one fight in the division, but Neer should be in consideration.

He looked very very good at that weight in his fight with Din, for those of you who haven't seen it.

I'm not sure what your on but Florian is nowhere near the top three

TBidness - I know he has only had one fight in the division, but Neer should be in consideration.

I started to argue, but changed my mind, because actually you're right.  Even though he only has one win, it's way more impressive than Bocek's win over Doug Evans, or Etim's win over Grice.  I'm going to bump Manny off the list, put Lauzon at 16 instead of 17, and put Neer at 18.

Good call.

Not bad

RANDY ERICKSON - I'm not sure what your on but Florian is nowhere near the top three

I'm on marijuana, and a few other more aggressive substances which shall remain unnamed.  Now that we've got that out of the way, who should be above Florian and why?  Meaning, what wins does another fighter have that are more impressive?

I think Florian is a little too high.

Yes, he's been a great streak, but going by your own list his top win is over #11 Thomas (by injury really as Din tore his mcl on a takedown attempt and then stopped fighting back, that fight should basically be a right off as far as counting towards rankings) Then it goes to #17 Lauzon.

Just having a bunch of wins doesn't do much if they aren't against top 10 competition. As spoon fed as people think Huerta had been (minus his step up against Guida), Florian's schedule has been similar.

griffin and edgar over huerta for sure.i'd sink guida out of the top 10, but close at 11 or 12

I understand your point, however Mishima was still ranked (top 15-20) when he came into the UFC, and that's an impressive win.  I counted his win over Din just like any other, because if you start to include that credential, the votes just lend themselves much more to subjective personal opinion.  I always look at the level of competition more than "how" someone won a fight, or I give finishes more credit than decisions if I need a tiebreaker.

You have to realize that Kenny's only loss in the division is to the champ, and both of his other career losses are to top 10 fighters in a higher weight class... however I agree that he may be too high, but I just couldn't see putting anyone lower in front of him right now.

Actually, that's another good (but arguable) point.  Although Huerta is undefeated in the division, Guida by far is his biggest win and the other wins are solid but not amazing.

I'm going to go with your advice and put Huerta behind Griffin and Edgar.

"I understand your point, however Mishima was still ranked (top 15-20) when he came into the UFC, and that's an impressive win."

Mishima had lost 2 out of his last 3 going into his fight with Florian, he had already talked of moving down to 145.

When it's something like what happened in the Florian/Thomas fight you kinda have to take it into consideration. It would be different if it was Florian that had caused the injury, but he didn't.

I re-watched the fight a minute ago to be sure. It was pretty even, no one had really landed anything substantial (The best connected shot was a nutshot from Florian). Din went for a takedown with about 1:40ish left in the first, you see his knee buckle and he immediately grabs it. Even as Florian swarms him, Din is still grabbing his knee. Afterwards we found out it was a torn MCL and a severely strained ACL.

Sometimes freak things happen in fights and you kinda have to take them into consideration.

I think Huerta, Griffin and Edgar all have more impressive wins then Florian at this point. Not to say Florian couldn't beat them down the road. (He has been pushed, like Huerta into the limelight a lot more then some fighters that are just as/if not more deserving at this time)

Maynard, while relatively new in the UFC LW scene, has already dominated an excellent ranked opponent in Edgar. I think that should move him up the list higher than 17 at least. It's a much bigger win then a lot of the fighters listed above him have. (I do understand your point about him being new and only having one big fight so far though)
