I think Torres serves as a good lesson for MMA fighters. He might have had the best record in all of MMA, possibly a bit padded with low level org fighters, but he also often fought well above his weight class.
He's been in quite a few wars in the WEC, and who knows how many wars he had with bigger fighters in the years before. Further, he's been said to engage in Chute Boxe like sparring sessions, even in the days before a fight. Sadly, like Wanderlei, I am afraid Torres may be a victim of too many wars over a very long and successful career.
Nonetheless, huge props to Bowles, who obviously has power and landed the punches where it matters.
Bowles had too much power and MT didnt respect it. they were both going hard good fight
I think the lesson some other fighters should take is during the post fight press conference. Miguel speaks like a professional and fields tough questions beautifully.
I agree. I've never heard anyone talk trash about Torres b/c he is pretty humble and he fights his ass off every time, but his ultra aggressive style could be bad for him.
I'm not trying to be one of those guys who says someone has to retire as soon as they get KO'd, but he's only like 28 and his face looks like he's been through hell. I just hope he hasn't accumulated too much damage. 39 fights is a ton!

Definitely, I just read that. His attitude is yet another reason for him to have so many fans. I hope he comes back better than ever.
I thought the lesson to learn was not to chase a more powerful puncher once he makes it out of the pocket.
Reset your hands, cut him off, get the TKO in the next exchange. -ken
The lesson is, dont get in the cage with Bowles....all of have yall have been swinging on Torres nuts for so long....how about giving Brian his props. Torres lost not because he has had to many "wars", but because he got beat by a better fighter.
There is a new sheriff in town. Bow down.
"all of have yall" ^^^^^
Say what?
I think the only lesson to be learned is to RESPECT other fighter's strengths, in this case Bowles' punching power that we were all aware of and that when you have someone hurt, it doesn't mean you should rush in like an animal, still pick your spots.
Having said that, Torres is still a GREAT fighter and will be back on top.
Beowulfie - I agree. I've never heard anyone talk trash about Torres b/c he is pretty humble and he fights his ass off every time, but his ultra aggressive style could be bad for him.I LOVE his ultra aggressive style, and even in a loss I think he is friggin awesome. I'd much rather see a guy like him go out there and go for it (and get caught) rather than two guys play it safe and have a boring kickboxing match.
Gardner tons of people are giving Bowles props. I hope you are seeing those posts too.
Great job Brian.
Jesus fucking Christ.
The guy loses one fucking fight in 6 years and the shit people say.
Quote honestly, Miguel losing this is gonna have the same result his first lost did- it's gonna make him refocus.
Then people need to watch out.
Mix6APlix - I think the bigger lesson here is to take advantage of you superior ground game when it is clearly in your best intrest. Bowles nearly dropped him with the first punch he landed. Instead of standing and trading, he should have gotten a take down and submitted Bowles. I look forward to the rematch greatly.Who knows what would have happened had this fight stayed on the ground a bit longer? But don't just assume Miguel would sub him. Brian is no slouch on the ground. Just becuase he hasn't had the need to show it in his WEC fights doesn't mean he doesn't possess the skills.

Torres has never been known to have good wrestling, unlike Brian.

To be honest I think he was overrated. P4P best? please.
He fights in a weak division (there just aren't that many tiny guys out there) and really hadn't fought any big names. Now some of the better guys are dropping down from 155/145 just to beat him. So it was inevitable.

QFT. Great post.
Someone should make sure Miguel gets a copy of this thread. It's the only way he's gonna learn!

of course they are now....they seemed to overlook the guys he finished before. Its cool, but i get to have my fun with this as well. We all believed, while others talked shit about "torres by anything". Motherfucker was asleep at the end of that fight.
Chadda78 - Someone should make sure Miguel gets a copy of this thread. It's the only way he's gonna learn! He's open minded enough, that it wouldn't surprise me if he would learn from anyone. As funny as your comment is, there are actually some people that know what they are talking about. Sometimes it's easier to get feedback from other people, since often we can't see our own faults.
That's cool...I purposely stay away from the place the first day or two after an event becuase of all the knucklehead posts so maybe I missed a bunch of it.
Torres fans rightfully so believed in Miguel, and yeah, some of them mistakenly thought he would run through Brian. But most of them from what I have seen the last 24 hours have been giving Brian props. The ones that really bother me are the one's who think Brian can only KO people. He is very good on the ground too -- real well rounded kid.
Torres has good standup and has showed a great chin, but he is not very fast and Bowles has huge power. Miguel needed to pick his shots more and use his giant reach.
