This is not a criminal trial, it's an impeachment inquiry.
The whistleblower has already said he'd respond to written questions from the GOP.
If the GOP is saying that testimony by Vindland and others is irrelevant because it's all hearsay, then what is the point of bringing in the whistleblower to testify when his complaint is mostly based on hearsay?
He wasn't on the call; Witnesses who were on the call have testified. What is he supposed to add to that line of questioning?
The WH has ordered just about every witness so far not to testify. Yet they insist on the whistleblower testifying, who, again, has based his complaint largely on hearsay.
He filed his complaint under the protections provided for whistleblowers, including anonymity. Yet the President and others have not only called for him to testifty but to have his identity revealed. Trump even called him a "disgrace to America". To have him publically testify could put him and his family in danger, the exact reason why there are laws to protect whistleblowers.
Lastly in regards to the WB, what a great precedent it will set for future whistleblowers: File an anonymous complaint, but if the subject is someone really important, well, you'll have to publically testify. It's won't happen if it's a Fortune 500 company and it won't happen here.
Sorry Republicans and Trump Nation, such is life when you commit abuse of power and extort allies - stupid enough acts on their own - but even more idiotic to do it while the opposing party controls congress!
So no, Trump and the GOP don't get their way: The whistleblower, Hunter and the other witnesses whose presence would only serve the GOP's transparent and desperate attempt to indirectly investigate the Bidens via the impeachment process, aren't going to take the stand.
Once again, don't get mad at the Dems or the whistleblower, be mad at Trump and his Keystone Kops administration for being corrupt, stupid and competent, and worse, getting caught.
