Anyone here train with Nelson Montero? If so would you recommend him, is he technical, and how does he differ if at all from other instructors? Thanks a lot in advance
He is Gracie Barra in San Diego? I went to their school when I was living in SD. The school was great. There was a lot of purble and brown belts there as well as several blacks. Nelson was very nice and inviting. Everyone in the academy was rad.
However, I ended up joining Saulo and Xande's gym while I live in SD. This is the BEST school in the USA.

my friend was sent to Iraq that signed a 1yr contract, this was 5mo into his contract. He left to Iraq and had his wife attempt to cancel the contract, drove to the academy and Nelson personally told her NO and said he couldnt cancel any contracts
lmfao someone is going to fight for this Brazilian living in America and didnt have the integrity and respect to cancel the remainder of his conract, what a class act
100% TRUTH
wow thats a pretty shitty story. I appreciate the responces, I guess if i decide to go with him I'll just know that his contracts are binding.....
HuntingtonPUNK,
A lot of the time fitness clubs, including BJJ clubs, assign their rights under the contract to a different entity. For example, Student signs a 12-month contract with "BJJ Club" for 100/month. BJJ Club immediately assigns the contract to "Collection Co." and Collection Co immediately pays BJJ Club $1,200. After the assignment, BJJ Club really doesn't have any way to cancel or modify the contract. That's because the contract is now technically between Student and Collection Co, not Student and BJJ Club.
Does make that sense? This might have happened here, and if it did, I can understand why Nelson might say that he couldn't cancel the contract. It might be because he seriously does not have the power to do so.
nelson is very good
When I trained with Nelson when I was a blue belt, he was teaching out of his garage. I thought I was really odd that he forbid anyone to go into his house to use his bathroom.
I cant blame him for that, can you imagine a bunch of sweaty dudes punishing your bathroom and then you having to clean it? :( But it definatly sounds like he has his quirks, Maybe i'll check out a couple other locals just incase
If you are teaching out of your house, I think it is fair to allow people to use your bathroom. So you're just going to let people piss and shit in their pants or out by a bush? Or maybe everyone needs to bring a plastic bag like we would pick up a dog's shit off the grass? Imagine if you went to a regular school at a commercial location and the instructor said you can't use the bathroom because he didn't want to clean it.
hahahaha fair enough you make a good point, but i think we have all rolled with "those guys" who you wouldn't want to use the bathroom after. :)
I'm married and I teach a small group out of my garage. My wife and I have no problem with people using the bathroom.
It's fine if others didn't think it was odd. He probably doesn't teach out of his garage anymore, so it doesn't really matter. It was just something that stuck in my head because I thought it was odd.
Maybe he had some dead bodies in there, or a mini green house?
if you sign up, watch out. His school seems to change location every few months.
The whole, "its a contract company thing" isn't much of an excuse.
Instructors use it as a crutch so that they can demand that you have to
pay out the remainder of your contract. All that the instructor has to do is
call the billing company and the contract is terminated.
Pretty lame to do that to someone going to Iraq. I'd be pissed.
My bad guys, I don't know this guy...had him confused with someone
else. I'm going to edit my posts above as I have never met this Nelson.
chickenfeet thats not true but they use it for an excuse and people like you believe it.
100% fact
