Training from home

how effective do you think it is training at home learning from instructional dvd's? ive trained in boxing, and kickboxing but would like to learn bjj but have no clubs anywhere near me so i am thinking about turning my garage into a gym with weights pads mat's etc: purchasing a couple of instructional dvd's and training with my brother. What do you guys think are the best dvd's to buy and do you think it's worth it

That's how I started. Its not so lame. You've gotta have some mates to do it with you though.

I used the Marco Ruas panther instructional set first of all. Just learn the subs first - Rear Naked Choke, Guillotine and Arm Bar. Leave the leg locks for a while.

It would be best, though, if you could also make it to a school - even once a month or once every two months. The problem is that if you don't, you learn not to worry about certain types of threats (a leglock, for example... or the guillotine) because your limited set of partners aren't very good at them.

If you go to a school, you get reminded of those things you don't see every day with the partners.

With a home gym you will not become a MMA champ, but you can develop a good MMA base that will enable you to kick some ass... You shold look at Ceaser Gracie's dvd set @ ultimateimports.com... It is 60 bucks and has alot of good stuff...

WhiteBelt.org has reviews of books, videos and training gear that just may help you find what you're looking for.

cheers for the help guy's ,ive wanted to learn bjj for ages but with no school or gym anywhere around and the fact that i work night's its really difficult. if i had LOADS of cash i would just love to move house or even country to train full time, BUT WE CAN ALL DREAM

I should also say that it is of UTMOST importance that your training partners are as consistent as you are.

I have a blue belt who I work out with two days a week and we've hardly missed a day since we started, about a year and a half ago.

I was awarded my blue belt (by a black belt) even though I was training without a school.

that is how my trainer started and he's a badass....He got me interested and i didn't know shit....i'm halfway decent....a couple other guys have also come a long way....so hell yeah any training and experience is good for the body...
