Training in Kailua-Kona?

I might accept a job that will take me to Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii for at least a year. I have lots of family in Hawaii, but they are on the Hilo side and in Oahu.

Anyone know if there is good MMA, boxing, Muay Thai, and/or BJJ training in Kona?

Thanks

BJ Penn has had an affiliate there for ever. I forget who the trainer is though. Someone here must know?

It's been a year or two since I was there but the Penn affiliate in the Golds gym was closed. I'm not sure if they opened another.

Damn. I knew his big gym was in Hilo. I was hoping he had an affiliate in Kona. I guess at one point, my hopes were right. Thanks.

TTT for more info.

Get yourself a bike and hit the Queen K highway. Kona is a Mecca of triathlon and if it's pain you're after, you'll find plenty there! Phone Post

Thanks for the advice. Obviously, Kona would be an amazing place to stay in shape and remain active. However, I've been training combat sports (wrestling, BJJ, MMA) on a high level for most of my life, now. It's a part of who I am and I would like to continue it. If nothing pans out, it may be triatholons and coaching high school wrestling.
