Trouble with BJJ Blue, need advice

I know this is a FRAT, but...
This one guy and I get together to train some mornings. (I won't mention his name because he posts here, we'll just call him CST.) He claims to have been promoted not to long ago, and I really think it has gone to his head. CST is always making fun of white belts, judo black belts (especially) like me, and wrestlers. He is also constantly bragging about being the "Grand Master Sensei" of the kids' class. WTF? I thought Grand Master Sensei was a karate/tkd thing. Do they have these titles in BJJ? Anyways, I recently had elbow surgery so I haven't been on the mat for a while, but CST says he wants to go over gripping and throws. I agree, because I could use the extra practice. So I meet him up at my club, and we talk for a few seconds. I just wanted to see how he was doing and stuff, but CST completely cuts me off and says, "I have been working on my grips with this other guy. I really want to test my stuff now. Let's cut the BS and TRAIN." He really emphasizes "train" like some tough guy. I really thought this was weird, but let it go and put on my elbow brace. I realize I forgot my tape and CST says, "no problem, I have some for you, JUDO GUY" and fires it at me like he is Roger Clemens. I still let it slide because I have known this guy for a while and we step out on the mat. This is when things start to get really weird.

I ask him if he wants to review any of the grips that the other judo guy showed him and he says, "No, cut the crap, let's DO THIS." So, I let him start and he starts to attempt the grip that I showed him earlier. He completely screws it up and somehow almost punches himself in the face. I start to tell him what he did wrong and then realize this moran is going for an actual throw! We are only supposed to be grip fighting! It was a really bad outside trip (kosoto gari) that I figure is going to blow my knee out if I don't just roll with it, so I figure I will just try to take his back (something CST has informed me is impossible now that he is a blue belt) and go for the choke. We go down and he instantly gives up his back. "How could a BJJ blue belt do that?" I think to myself. No matter, I sink in one hook and he instantly starts tapping and yelling, "Ouch! Ouch! You hurt me teeth and my lip!" There is blood streaming from his mouth and even though my vision is about 20/600, I can see the tears welling up in his eyes. The only thing I can think of is that CST was so out of control that he actually kneed himself in the face. I run off the mat to get some paper towels. Well, actually, I RAN so he would not see me laughing at him. I get him some ice and paper towels and give it to him. He then proceeds to lie down moaning and groaning.

I try to apologize, but CST says "it isn't your fault." I think to myself he is finally going to acknowledge what an a-hole he was, but no. "Some white belt spaz did this on Wednesday. Then, you didn't take your fall properly and countered in a way that no BJJer would ever do. I can't expect you to know how to fall when being taken down. You are just a JUDO guy, I keep forgetting that." WTF? I ask CST if he wants to continue, but he just wanted to work an armbar from guard. I tell him fine, but it has to be my left arm because my right one is still not strong enough and I don't want to reinjure it. CST then informs me that REAL BJJ ONLY ATTACKS THE RIGHT ARM since most people are right handed so he would respect my wishes of "being too much of a p*ssy to train." He asked a few more gripping questions, then said he was "wiped out" and that "this was the best stand up training session I have had in a long time, maybe ever." He also says "I hope you learned something today" and grabs his stuff and leaves.

I am starting to question if this guy really is a blue belt or not.

Here are my questions:
1) Is there a "Grand master sensei" in BJJ?

2) Does "real BJJ" only attack the right side of the body?

3) Does BJJ have a different way to fall or counter than judo that they believe is superior? I am not a great judo player by any stretch, but I have been thrown by some extremely high level guys and no one has ever complained.

4) Does something happen at blue or do you guys think that he is still bitter about not being promoted and just bought the blue and is trying to compensate?

Thanks!

I've been training 6 years and I'm a purple belt under Michael Jen. I have also taught kids and adult classes and feel I can give you all the answers you need about this A$$hole. To be grand master you have to be like an 8 stripe blackbelt or higher. Check out BJJ.org for information on it. Your friend certainly is not. Bjj attacks whatever the opponent gives to us. Right side Left side, it does not matter. Because he is only a blue belt he is probably only used to attacking on his strong side but gave you a BS reason why he only wanted to attack one side because he's not used to attacking the other side. It is common for Blue's to still only favor one side to attack but this guy has such a big head about himself that he's just spouting BS. BJJ does not claim to have a superior way of falling than Judo and would never try to make that claim. Judo has been studying the art of throws and falls for hundreds of years, we borrow a lot from Judo and wresling for stand up. Again your friends a douchebag. Honestly on his blue belt I can think of 4 reasons why he is acting like he is. 1) His school has not put him in check because by blue belt practicioners have developed at least some bit of humility and respect. If they haven't then usually the upper belts will beat on him until he has. 2) Your friend is just an A$$hole through and through and is just trying to impress you. Think if he acts this way with other stuff, like if you guys go to the gym does he try to tell you your lifting wrong or that he's going to show some new routine he found that's going to blow up your arms. These people have a tendency to act knowledgable in all areas to impress when really they come off as arrogant. 3) Your friends school just sucks, he comes from a Mcdojo who's taught him wrong and he's believing the crap they're telling him. Common thing that happens and these guys get shown the truth in competition. 4)his blue belt is false. One of these things is true and none of your friends crap is true. Hope this help.

Sorry, but sayonaisse is totally wrong. I'm a BJJ black belt and have to say that CST knows what he is talking about. No self-respecting BJJ fighter would ever attack the left side. Sounds like thePetester didn't know what he was doing and injured CST while he was flailing around.

"No self-respecting BJJ fighter would ever attack the left side." LOL. That means only your right side of the belt can be black People's Knee.

I don't know what your problem is. He gave you every excuse to avoid him and you stayed around him.

Sounds like "Battered Jodoka Syndrome" to me.
Why don'tyou just go to prison and request a really big cellmate.

OK, I'm just kidding. Do you forgive me? Do you want some more? :)

I am a brown, and I completely agree with TPK.

You should only attack the left side if you are in Europe.

Which side do you attack if you are Australian? I'm so confused...

Mat Pimp,

In Australia, you should attack the right side during winter and summer, and the left side during spring and autumn.

On the solstices however, you should just go for the triangle choke instead.

HA HA! sounds like a new blue with a inferiority complex. Clomplete BS, all.

ttt

life is filled with such losers. but, still, i hope this is a case of life being better than fiction. idiots like this make me feel better about myself.

This reminds me of the time I was training with some Judoka (i.e. yesterday) and one of them kicked me in the face while I was passing his guard.

Hello chipped tooth and dentist's office!

thePetester,

CST is legit and was taking it easy on you because of your elbow. Grand Master Sensei is just under Grand Poobah Master Sensei in the Blue Belt category and equal to 5th or 6th degree Black Belt in Judo.

I disagree with attacking the right side. That's pure sport BJJ. In my bjj, I attack the side with the heart, the left. You cripple the heart, and your opponent has nothing. NOTHING.

Oh man that story is funny as hell.  That guy has a super fragile ego.....

Wait a minute- The reason that Brazilians do so well is because they are near the equator and therefore can attack all sides????? I always thought it was because it was called Brazilian Jiujitsu and they felt the need to back up the name....

To cut the long story short, this guy seems like a very insecure white belt with an extremely high ego. He obviously radiates too much negative energy ... the best thing for you is to avoid training with him, he clearly wants to do his own weird stuff and is not open to anything else. I have a similar experience with such a person and I can tell you that training with him is always a danger for injuries, way too tight and intense as they have no technique whatsoever. So in the end you get pretty much nothing out of it and you are very likely to end up with an unecessary injury.

you should have used the leg scissors head crush.

High level technique. Blue belt no can defend.

LOL @ hiptosser...

This story reeks of BS.

It could be true, but not likely.
