Look at the states that normally vote democratic that have swung republican in this election. Almost in all cases the entire state voted republican. The only areas that were different were major metropolitan cities. Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Miami-Dade, etc. Your voice was heard it just wasn't loud enough. Liberals always hate the electoral college because it gives a voice to those not living in New York City or California.
If you look at a county map of voting results you will see that the bulk of the country geographically is red, with some blue counties in major metro areas.
The electoral college has not worked in their favor for quite some time.
You can see an argument for the Electoral college by looking at all the red on the map. Those people need a voice, and really their way of life is different than people living in the big cities.

I would be ok with a popular vote as long as ID was required, you had to be an American Citizen and we had dedicated polling stations(meaning you can only vote at one place). However, I don't think its a very good idea for the left though. With the EC the left starts out with a lead in every election. California and New York are always blue. You guys have an advantage, it's the right that needs to thread the needle why would you want to give that up?

It doesn't matter who you support, the electorial college is outdated and should be done away with. But after a little research I found out that over the last 50 years it's been attempted and failed many many times. So it looks like it's here to stay for better or worse.
