Last night's TUF episode was delicately titled "Get the F' up" a name inspired by coach Michael Bisping's pointed instructions to Stephen Bass during his losing performance against Dennis Bermudez. Fellow TUF 14 contestant Hamid 'Akira' Corassani blogs for MMA Nation about the contrasting coaching styles.

I still don't know why Bisping didn't show up to the fight announcement. Some of the guys minded but he's not our father. He's not our coach even. Our real coaches are at home. He was our coach for the season. Of course we respect him for that and we stick with this guy whatever it takes. The only thing those coaches could do was amplify our skills and help us out in the corner. That's what I was after. Just help add to the training I have worked on for the last seven years.
Bermudez did what he had to do and put it on Bass. I have to give it to Bass. He was hanging in there. We never fully heard what was said between he and Bisping. There are two sides to every story. At the end of the day he didn't go out and win that fight. You are responsible for yourself inside the cage. The corner can't fight for you. One little tiny thing blew up into a huge drama.
If you have greater than a five IQ it's very clear that Bisping and Miller have a very different style of coaching. The most preferable is Miller's way of coaching. Methodic, slow and positive. Bisping was more just yelling "get the F up!" How am I going to get the F up? Tell me how to get up. Different styles. We're not there with our normal coaches so I would never criticize Bisping for that. He just wasn't as clear and methodic. His gameplans were always great. He can just be emotional during the fights. Miller did a great job though.
I can't say anything about next week but I can promise some real craziness! You'll have to stay tuned.
The truth of the matter is that I should have just gotten the F up, end of story. I will fix that hole and when faced with that situation again I will in fact "Get the F up!! No need for excuses, this is a game of ups and downs, a wild ride that Ive enjoyed some success in and I plan to dig in and keep moving forward!
Side note: Bisping is excellent at getting the F up. I've been studying him a little since coming home and using some of the stuff he and the other coaches taught me, making adjustments, and getting ready to gt my next W.
The training was definitely for future use. I had my own plan when I got there on how I was going to train and wrote my own game plan for each Team Miller fighter after the team picks. All that goes out the window when you get thrown in the mix of coaches and fighters tho. That being said, getting up was one of the main focuses of our training and I learned alot from Bisping and the other coaches that I plan on using in the future.
Gobulcoque-I would have loved to "just get up" but it wasnt in the cards for me in this fight. I have a good guard and have relied on it in the past to pull me out of hairy situations but it failed me misreably this time. I've got some more tuning up to do.
Glovegate- Taking complete responsibility for my loss is the only acceptable course of action. Im my own man making my own destiny and if I refuse to take the full burden of my defeat I'm doomed to brush it off as "circunstance" and have it repeat itself. That's not going to happen, Im coming back better than EVA!!!!
superCalo - Bisping etc didn't know him as well as his normal coaches, they don't see him day to day, they can only go on impressions they have in the gym so while they may well be right in their methods and gameplans its hard to change all that you have know up after years of training just because you have been with these guys for a few days.
No it isn't. You see it every season on TUF that has an exceptional trainers as part of the coaching staff. You saw it last episode, Millers fighters were using techniques that he taught them specifically for the fights.
which techniques are you talking about that he taught them specifically for the fights ?
He's talking about the way to finish the rear naked choke. Miller called it "Captain America" and they were talking about how Bermudez looked over to Miller and grinned when he sunk it in that way.
TheBass - How are you typically with listening to your cornermen? Post fight you said something along the lines of "I don't listen very well". Was that in general or a one time occurence?
Dennis trains at my gym and he's a really nice kid. I'm glad he won his fight but I am sorry you had to be the one to lose. Good luck in your future endeavors, man.
thepriest- no Rear Naked Choke got sunk in. I wasnt going out like that. I was on my last leg from the beginning of the fight but tapping was never an option. And it wasnt a matter of listening, it was a matter of not being able. I was physically exhausted from the get go, live and learn.
Dead Again- Im 100% sincere, no one could hold him down in his early fights in the UFC as well as when he stepped up in competition with Hamill and Evans and other high level wrestlers. I am currently drilling and practicing getting up like a mad man, never again...hopefully, haha
It would be very easy to jump on the BispingHate bandwagon (as always).. but Im sure Mike tried his best.. not everybody trains the same way & to be fair.. Bisping has been pretty successful doing things his way.

Im pretty sure any of his team would be overjoyed to acheive what Mike has acheived.

Bass- Sorry, It was the other fight aired that had the RNC. I remember a few timesthere were attempts and you could;ve have "found a way out", as dana mentioned as well. I train with someone that was on the last season and he said Koschek also enforced the standing up principle on his team.
Bisping was douchey for airing him out like that after a loss. Tough fight Bass, you ate some hard shots on the ground. I could hear them clear through my sound system and they were cringe worthy. Props for gutting it out that long.
