TUF ratings are at lowest point ever

MMAPayout.com has learned that this week's episode of the Ultimate Fighter on Spike drew a 0.9 rating (1.2 million viewers). The program drew quarter hours of 0.84, 0.91, 0.92, and 0.98. In the key demographic numbers were a 1.11 in M18-49 and a 1.34 in M18-34.

That is the lowest number in series history and continues this season's downward trend.

This weeks fight sucked...maybe they should throw a rattlesnake in there with them to make it more exciting :)

What becomes of MMA if TUF's ratings slip drastically further?

People on these boards talk so much shit about the show, but lets face it;it is the most essential showcase of the sport.

The ratings report from the show before last suggest that this downward spiral is a trend:

"MMAPayout.com has learned that the fourth episode of the seventh season of The Ultimate Fighter drew a 1.0 rating (1.3 million viewers). The program drew quarter hour ratings of 0.94, 0.88, 1.00, and 1.06. The demographic breakdowns were 1.49 in M18-34 and a 1.25 in M18-49.

The quarter hours actually average out to a 0.97, which rounds to a 1.0, but the series is very close to breaking the 1.0 support discussed on MMAPayout.com last week. The number is also under the 1.5 million viewers Spike averaged in prime time in the first quarter."

Im trying to stay hopeful that when TUF dies out they will go back to having competitive fights instead of 50$ PPV's where all the fights are their favorite boys blowing out some tomato can.

From MMAPayout:

"The Ultimate Fighter is dying and everyone knows it. That's not a knock on anyone, diminishing returns is the reality of television--particularly reality television. The UFC and Spike know it, that's why they're readying its replacement, a live weekly fight series which is scheduled to debut in 2010. However, under terms of the contract extension signed last year, the series is scheduled to continue through 2011 with five more seasons.

To their credit, the powers that be at the UFC and Spike shook things up this year with the new win and you're in the house twist, resulting in the first two episodes featuring 8 fights each. The fight quarter hour is always the highest rated quarter of the show and the conventional thinking is/was that more fights equal better ratings.

That hasn't been borne out this season, with the wall to wall action of the first two episodes drawing a 1.3 and 1.2 respectively. The season premiere's 1.3 rating is the lowest in the series' history. The 1.2 rating for episode two is the second worst rated week two in series history, despite featuring eight qualifying fights.

Those early returns don't seem to bode well for the ratings for season seven. On average, there is a 32.1% decline in the overall rating from episode one to episode twelve. If that pattern holds true this season, the rating for episode twelve would be in the 0.9 range, which would tie the series' worst rated episode (episode twelve of season two which aired outside of its regular time slot).

Of course it should be noted that in looking at the weekly ratings from the past six seasons, it is clear that if TUF were a stock it would have strong support at the 1.0 rating. The critical question this season is will that baseline number hold? If it does, the series can continue as a status quo success. If it doesn't, we may be witnessing the beginning of the end of the TUF era."

 Also NHL playoffs going on.

Awesome.

I still watch the TUF show religiously, though.

mmapayout.com lies alot. Im pretty sure this is wrong.

 mmapayout "learned"???

So they didn't give a source to their information?

I call bullshit!

I actually like watching the show but I COMPLETELY forgot about it until I saw this thread. It's the week before finals week for most colleges and Wednesday was the last day of class for many so most were probably out partying.

NBA and NHL playoffs plus MLB is on every night as well.

well we got silly ass's on here posting about american idol and real world when they should be watchin tuf

That's a good one.

It's gotten really old. I used to really look forward to the day it was on. Now, I miss it as often as I see it, and when I watch it I'm bored 90 % of the time.

it's a good show to watch on a weeknight if you're an mma fan. the main thing I hate about the show is how it prolongs title defenses and such. I know they use the show to promote the ppvs and whatnot, but it shouldn't have a negative effect on the actual UFC events.
