Type Japanese here?

Back when the Japan forum was created, it was possible to type Japanese and a bunch of people did. These days I never see posts like that. Did the forum stop supporting Japanese fonts? I went back to look at some of the first posts (like the introduce yourself post) and it was all mojibake in my browser so I am guessing that's the case. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks for the explanation Dogmeat. It'd be cool if we could get that functionality back, and would probably attract more Japanese members.
