UFC 115 = Pride-style card

Think about it, the headlining bout is interesting from a matchmaking standpoint, bound to be exciting, and features two fan favourites hailing from the early days. While it really isn't about determining who the top fighter in the division is, or where they stand in the rankings, it's a hell of a fight between two guys who will most definitely bring it.

CroCop vs. Barry is a case of two K-1 level kickboxing experts squaring off in the unpredictable MMA arena. Again, not particularly relevant in terms of ranking, but a hell of a fight. The personalities and career stories behind this fight make it not only compelling in terms of competitive excellence, but in terms of human drama as well.

And then you have Gilbert Yvel, of all people, taking on a somewhat-inconsistent-yet-capable grappler that the organizing body would like to develop into contender material. How PRIDE is that? Oldschool indeed, my friends.

This is the sort of matchmaking that Pride-bashers used to shit all over back in the day. Not coincidentally, this is the first UFC card in a while that I may go out to watch, rather than just streaming the main event and casually checking the undercard.
