Blaming the 9PM start for low buys is so stupid.
Their most purchased PPV of the year was UFC 129, which was also the first PPV to move to 9PM.
The reason these events haven't been doing so well is because there are too many events and some of the main events haven't been all that great/were changed for the worse.
Maynard/Edgar has to be a disappointment, but it was the 4th show in as many weeks and UFC 135 did an alright buyrate. Still, the fact that it less than their January fight is pretty bad.
Edit: Melzter says UFC 136 did 250,000. Still not great and slightly below the January fight.
Brigham - Zuffa doesn't release their PPV numbers, all of this is speculation with no source
/thread
This. All of this shit is speculation from clowns like Metzler who use google search numbers for PPVs events that have released official figures as a benchmark for them to make guesses.
Personally, I have a kid on the way and don't want to drop money on more than one ppv a month.
It couldn't be that low... No sale just because of Chael -
Edgar vs. Maynard is FOTY candidate on top of that...
I guess people care less about chael than I thought...Aldo vs florian was a sexy matchup too...not a great fight but I was excited beforehand for sure
Meltzer is saying 250k
2 PPVs in the same month is killing me. Cannot afford this much longer and next year there will be more events?
and what's gonna happen in Feb with 2 events on the same day? How is that going to work and how much is it going to cost me?
what moron is saying it did 175k buys?
If it did 175k buys Dana would base jump off mandalay bay without any gear.
It didnt produce great numbers but was still dissapointing... 175k buys isnt dissapointing... it's run for the hills catastrophic.
Jones vs Rampage was also dissapointing...
The UFC is in a correctional phase... it's consolidating. There are a few reasons...
1) 2 new weight classes have been absorbed introducing tons of brand new faces to fans.
2) Strikeforce purchase... promoting shows on showtime under a different brand name.
3) 4 shows on versus...
- when you introduce all these new faces (2 new titles) and then have all these shows on different platforms without cross promoting the new platforms on the existing one (spike) people feel like they are lost and cant keep up with the sport.
4) too many ppv's (the sweet spot is around 13... there's 16 this year)
5) 6 main events were scratched due to injuries.
6) new start time.
Alot of this will be fixed next year... 13 ppv's instead of 16. back to old start time. the 2 new weight classes are being introduced through this seasons tuff and a good amount of those fighters will be in the mix. all of UFC's content will be cross promoted across all fox platforms, etc...
The correctional phase should be over by next year, especially with the fox push.
The only item that has yet to be solved is the injury issue. It will never be fully solved but it has to somehow be mitigated.
6 main events being scratched? and the year isnt even over yet.
TopGrinder - reasons for shitty numbers for 136
1. 3 UFC PPVs in a month
2. Non star power to the casual fan
3. people r kinda broke these days
4. headliner was a rematch of another unpopular fight
5. UFC had numerous watered down cards all summer long
7. PPV numbers have been trending down for awhile now
8. 6pm pst start time
9. east coast weather troubles
10. No primetime or in the moment hype pieces
So there r a few reasons for the shit number. It doesnt take a genius to figure this shit out...
Number 4? Their 2nd fight could have been fight of the year and ended in a draw...why wouldn't u want to see another rematch? And even 250,000 is seriously low...those kinda numbers are similar to the pre-chuck liddell days of the UFC...not a good sign IMO
championbreed1 - I think the tim had a lot to do with it bcz a lot of ppl are still working around that time and if the event had started 1 hour before try could see it they rather not buy it.
Fuck tim, ruining PPVs. I hate that guy.
They are too expensive, period.
I wont speculate on all the other factors..
But $55 is way too much to ask people to pay for some fights. If they lowered the price.. more people would buy.
Once.. on a thread like this.. some asshole posted saying somthing like, if you can't afford $50 a month maybe you dont deserve luxeries like watching UFC fights.
I wonder if that fucking snob is reading this thread.
:)
HD UFC PPVs are only $45 on Cox Cable. I don't know why the rest of you are paying $55.
There is a cable company that charges $60.89 for HD.I believe it`s Shaw.
Solution, offer a year long pass for $250 thats gets you all of the fights for a year. I would buy that in a heartbeat and the UFC would make a shit ton of cash. As it is I only rent a few each year and usually have to go to the bar to watch the rest.
Hopefully this will put to rest the MYTH that Sonnen is a "huge PPV draw".
CAINtheBULL - HD UFC PPVs are only $45 on Cox Cable. I don't know why the rest of you are paying $55.
Cablevision on Long Island, NY charges $54.95. I guess every distributor has a different rate. I wonder what the Zuffa's cut is?!
I've spent way to much money on PPV's the last few years. I prefer to watch from the comfort of my own home. And my buddies aren't really fans. I think the HD feed from Shaw in my part of the country is like 65 bucks.I've been getting the regular feed for 55 to save a bit here and there. But man it's getting to the point I feel like an addict. It sucks feeling guilty when you hit that "BUY" button on the pvr.
I'm not hurting for money that bad but it would be nice to put some of that expendable income into a college fund for my little boys instead. I like the idea of a season pass of sorts. Or discounts based on frequency of purchase or something.
But anyway theres my gripe.
For me it was simple - $55.95 for 135 in HD, then $69.95 for 136. Sorry, Dana. Love the product, but that ain't happening.

casual fans just hear gray maynard talk for 10 seconds and they get bored, sorry but gray couldn't do a thing to hype up the 3rd fight; even edgar couldn't get any buzz around this fight. fight was great but the build up sucked because those two don't belong headlining a card.
