Ufc 140 did 480,000 buys

at least that's the early estimate from Metzler. He's been anywhere from 50-75,000 short on most recent ppvs so there's a solid chance that it broke 500,000 buys.

Jone is becoming a draw.

Looks like there were 480,000 people who had a great night and saw some great fights.

what's impressive is there is 2 ppvs this month(which leads to some people picking one over other). The countdown was on Fuel instead of Spike(so in less than 1/4th the home it's usually in) and there has been a ton of events recently(so for the people who believe in oversaturation this would qualify). There also wasn't a ton of buzz for the event.

Bones Jones bringing 'em in.

Solid number. Still low for a LHW title fight though.

Tito is still a draw.  I know 4 different people who ordered the PPV because he was on it.

Cotto v margaritto did how many ? Phone Post

Didn't randy , chuck , Tito all do 750k plus on a regular ? Phone Post

Herring In A Fur Coat -  205 has been the UFC's marquee division for a long time.  Jones is just stepping into the void left by Chuck, Tito, and Randy.

Just like I'm stepping into the void left by you

I know, I know bruh, you can't post often, your work hours at Chuck E. Cheese has gotten beyond overtime status )-:

lol no, yes Tito vs Chuck did big numbers but the only ppv Randy had that ever did over 535,000 buys was against Brock(and we know who was the draw there).  Tito had 2 fights do over 500 k(1 against Chuck and 1 against Shamrock). Chuck on the other hand was a very large draw. No one will dispute that.

Btw Tito is not that big a draw. Sure he's somewhat of a draw but he's not any bigger than a normal co main. The last 2 ppvs he headlined did barely over 300.000 buys. Btw mmavixen if you have four friends that bought this ppv for Tito(and not Jones or Machida) did you have to step in to a time machine to talk to them? Seriously they are buying a ppv for a guy who is 1-6-1 in his last 8 fights then they are crazy. If anything Mir was the second biggest draw. Neither of which matters. Besides Brock and Gsp no one is drawing big numbers without a legit co main event.

All that being said Jones is very young in his career and the Ufc is in a  huge slump ppv wise. These are pretty solid numbers.

  1. This is a great number especially in this time of very low PPV buys and in the same month as a Lesnar fight! Wow!

    2. You have to adjust for increased price of PPV when comparing recent figures to that of Randy/Tito/Chuck days.

    3. If Rashad beats Davis on Fox, and then Jones confronts him in the cage afterwards, their matchup could easily do over a million buys

 THIS!!!

Cindy

Machida is a pretty good draw. Has had every fight do over 500k since he KOd Rashad

i always wonder who draws the most with the average joe...people used to love Liddell and tito but now its GSP but who else??JOnes and brock but are any lighter guys big draws?guys like Aldo or faber?i dont seee too many tuning in to see them tbh..

Nope, no time machine needed.  There's a lot of MMA fans in Miami (especially Latins like myself) that adore Tito and recognize that since he doesn't have a lot of fights left, it's important to watch everyone of them.  I wouldn't call hardcore fans that are loyal to a legend crazy.  If that's the case, I wish we had more of these "crazy" fans out there, instead of these bandwagon losers.

I don't think it was Jones alone that brought in this number. Remember Hominick is a big draw in Canada. Both nogs were on the card. Tito Ortiz was on the card. Machida and Korean Zombie brings in a lot of the asian crowd.

Hominick and Korean Zombie have never sold a ppv in their life. Come on man even when a ppv gets sold Jones gets discredited. Of course tito fans and Big Nog fans(no one bought this ppv for Lil Nog come on dude) bought the card but Jones was the primary draw.

Jesus you could say this about every single card. People don't say oh well 19 people bought this card for Rory Macdonald when Gsp fights. It's a given that their is going to be more than just 1 fighter people like on a card.

I really think it will be just Gsp, jones, and Brock. If Brock wins his next fight brocks stock will go up more. Phone Post

people need time to get used to fighters. A long time dominant champion will always draw far more than a newer guy like Aldo, Cruz, Edgar, or whoever becomes flyweight champ. Some divisions like lhw or hw will always have a champ who draws because they are the marguee divisions but the other divisions will go through ups and downs.

I think Aldo could be a draw if he could get back to finishing like he did in the Wec. It's harder for a lighter fighter to draw but brilliant lighter weight fighters will draw.  Let's not forget when the Ufc brought lws back people thought there was no way they would ever draw big numbers and then BJ Penn turned in to one of the biggest draws in the Ufc. Superstars will draw eyes regardless of the weight. We just haven't seen the Ufc version of Manny Pac, Floyd, De La Hoya, or on.

Really I think the definition of what we perceive as a draw is going to change. With the Ufc becoming more and more international who is to say a Vitor(who is huge in Brazil) or Anderson(who is pretty solid in America and becoming huge in Brazil) aren't already big draws because of what they bring in internationally.

Jones is a draw. This is a weak to average number for 2010 but for 2011 that's huge.

Silva is actually a FAR bigger draw/name than anyone in Brazil right now. This was far from the case just 11 months ago but the Belfort front kick KO and 9ine management have turned Silva into a superstar over night. Anderson has transcended MMA in Brazil and is easily as mainstream as top soccer players down there. He won SPORTSMAN (not MMA fighter or even combat athlete, SPORTSMAN of the year over all the top football players) from GQ magazine, appears in Burger King ads, music videos and promotional crap with Bieber. He's also teetering at close to a million twitter followers.

Belfort was apparently not even that mainstream in popularity but rather more of an extreme outlier in what was forever a fringe sport. With Silva becoming as huge as he has Vitor's a distant second but has a lot more popularity than everyone else.
