How Fight Odds Work

Unlike a spread on a football game where one team is getting a certain amount of points (ex. Saints +7), in MMA fights the line on the game is called a money line.
Conor McGregor (-175)
Chad Mendes (+150)

In this fight, McGregor would be the favorite, meaning if you bet $174 on him and he wins, you would profit $100. If he were to lose though, you would lose the full $175.

If you were to bet on Mendes at +150, if you bet $100 on him and he wins the fight, you will profit $150. If he were to lose the fight, you would lose your original $100 bet.

Depending on how people are betting on the fights the odds will shift from the moment they open, right up until the night of the fights.

Yes 1.5 x $300 = $450 Phone Post 3.0

Surprised Rory is -165, seems very high for a challenger who previously lost to the guy he's fighting.

I doubt I'll make the bet but Pickett +600 is very tempting.

Very close odds at the top of the card and rightly so.
You'd have to fancy Lawler as a dog though considering he's already beaten Rory.
Also Pickett at plus 600 is worth a punt. Phone Post 3.0

I like McGregor but I'm surprised to see him as the favourite. Mendes is a really bad matchup for him stylistically.

TheBigRedOne - I am not a gambler, so some one help me understand this:

"If you were to bet on Mendes at +150, if you bet $100 on him and he wins the fight, you will profit $150.

So if I bet $300 on Mendes and he wins, then may pay out is $450 ($300 + 3 x $50)?
$450 plus your $300 stake. Phone Post 3.0

I've heard the expression that one fighter is a "two to one favorite." How do they calculate that? I thought I had a decent understanding of basic math, but maybe not.
There's a big spread for this fight. Please explain. Thanks!!
