Yes that’s correct, the 16 man tournament that Royce Gracie won had 200,000 people buying the ppv event…can you guess what UFC 3 drew in terms of numbers? Hmm 90,000 and this shocks me after how brutal UFC 2 was and That Shamrock was expected to fight…anyone care to explain what happened back then?
No idea what UFC 4, t and the other early ones drew but they were great tournaments
This web site keeps track, however buys are always based off of formulas and projections so take them for what they are or as the fw champ would say, "it is what it is"..
Didn't they get pulled from all cable/ppv wjich would ezplain that. Remember DirecTV was the only place you could get it on ppv, would explain the huge sudden dropoff

this is correct. you could only get it on satelite. most people would have to see 3 and 4 months later on tape from blockbuster

In those days, it was all about having a friend with one of those giant fucking sat dishes and a box to unscramble it, then recording it to VHS and trading the tapes. Through that street magic I was able to witness MMA for the first time Also, some cool movie rental places would pick up the events a year or so later.

they didn't get dropped by the douchebag leo hindery until well after UFC 3, the sattelite only dark events were in the teens. I live in the country and bought my first giant dish after ufc 1 just for the purpose

I’m a bit surprised there wasn’t a huge dip after UFC 5 and the dreaded super fight with Ken and Royce…plus, you had Severn dominating mostly by wrestling…

I think it was because it was the middle of summer july event. I had a HUGE party and lots of people seemed to know it was on, were feeling good on beautiful summer night, and wanted to see it. UFC7 came around and had like 3 people ask me about it.
The high numbers were all the ones ken shamrock main evented, besides the ultimate ultimate
Yes and it’s funny because most of those super fights were terrible…a Shamrock/Severn 2…Shamrock/Gracie and Shamrock/Oleg were awful but Ken was thought to be the best submission guy in the world with supposed great hands too lol…
I still wonder what would have happened if Shsnrock didn’t stall against Royce at UFC 5…say Royce best him by choke again, would he have still bowed out of the UFC?

Yeah, cable started dropping them after UFC 12. I watched most the UFCs live before that on my grandpa’s illegal cable box or “black box” you could get at swap meets.
I missed the next several events until I found some friends with DirecTV and we ordered them. Same when they started airing Pride around the 2000 GP. All tape trading before that!
