UFC 256 performance bonuses

UFC 256 was held on Saturday, December 12, at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In addition to being paid a fixed amount to show and another, usually equal amount to win, each UFC event also awards four $50,000 Performance Bonuses. Usually, there is a Fight of the Night in which both fighters are given a performance bonus, and a performance bonus to the winner in two fights; however, this event gave four performance bonuses. For the record, "Performance Bonus" is for the moment made you go "HOLY F@$%ING $#!@."  The winners are shown below, in bold.

$50,000 Fight of the Night

Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno ends in a Majority Draw, champion keeps the belt (48-47, 47-47. 47-47)

$50,000 Performance Bonus

Rafael Fiziev defeated Renato Moicano by KO (Punches, Round 1, 4:05)

$50,000 Performance Bonus

Kevin Holland defeated Ronaldo Souza by KO (Punches, Round 1, 1:44)

One of the primary differences between the UFC model and the boxing model is the depth of the card. Sometimes in MMA the greatest fight isn’t the main event, or close to it. However, at UFC on ESPN 256 the Fight of the Night was the the main event, and only one bonus went to the undercard.

In addition, to the bonuses and purses, fighters earn:

•Reebok pay, based on tenure, for wearing the distinctive apparel during fight week and in the Octagon;

•Less commonly than in the past fighters get discretionary “locker room” bonuses of varying amounts, which, despite their name, actually come in the mail now;

•In some cases there is an LOA (Letter of Agreement) on the contract for additional income; and,

•The most elite fighters get points on the pay per view for PPV events, which this one was not.

The next league event is UFC on ESPN+ 41, also known as UFC Vegas 17, UFC Fight Night 183, and UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Neal, on December 19, 2020, at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Gavin Tucker had a great performance, 30-27 over Billy Q is no small feat.

Olivera had a great performance but hard to argue with the ones given out

Wish Charles got paid but hard to argue with Fiz amd Holland.  But Charles performance was outstanding

In 2 of the Abu Dhabi cards this summer they gave out more than 4 bonuses (5 in one card, 6 in the other).

Why they couldn't do something like that for last night's card is beyond me. The 2 POTNs they gave out were well deserved. So were the FOTNs. A performance like Oliveira's though, where he came in as an underdog and the vast majority of "experts" in the MMA media and longtime fans on sites like the UG said they expected Ferguson to win, deserved a bonus.

The POTNs aren't for finishes. They're for performances. Outside the main event, I would say that the single most impressive performance of the night was Oliveira's, with Holland's a sort-of close 2nd. It was a display of sheer dominance over a fighter who has been beaten only one other time in the last 7 years and who was ranked #3 at LW and #14 P4P.

Maybe BLAF will pull a Figueiredo move and invite Do Bronx to stop by to pick up a bag full of $50K in cash, but I doubt it. He's too much of an arrogant, self-important, "smartest guy in the room" person to admit that yes, once again, he fucked up. At least this time he didn't give $50K to some chick like he did with Shevchenko's sister after her win over an unranked opponent, so there's that I guess, and he doesn't have to save face by handing out some more bonus money he should have handed out in the first place.

Universally -

Bro, shut up. The fight was bland and Oliveira's 'dominance' amounted to a rather stale grapplestalling match. Good for him that he won but the fact you're so bent out of shape that he didn't get a gold medal and a statue erected for it is gay as fuck.
