UFC 59 NOT Sold Out

UFC 59 is not sold out and will never be sold out. One of the most used marketing tactics in boxing and mma shows – is to tell the general public the event is Sold Out or 500 - 1000 seats left. This tactic is used in order to increase ticket prices and make it seem like the demand is high. Promoters and venues hold back X – amount of tickets in order to accomplish their goal. Tickets will usually be avail a few days before the event or better yet – knowing someone on the inside.

Sorry Sauc and Dana – had to let the naive fans in on the lil' secret.

Ibelieve is a strange cat--

That said, Ibelieve, is this a legal practice? Or is it just impossible to prove?

Almost bullshit.

$400 tickets - gone

$300 tickets - gone

$200 tickets - a few left, cant get two seats together.

$100 tickets - gone

$50 tickets - gone

Go check for them at ticketmaster.com

lol @ this troll thread.

Well a Mike Tyson with 6 months of sprawl training could definately cause some problems for Rickson.

I know how you feel crack head

crackhead is correct.

makes me wish there was a "Who Cares?" forum for it to be moved to.

OH NO! Big Bad Zuffa has deceived us! There are still a few tickets to UFC 59. We have been MISLED! (sarcasm off)

I myself think its a fine thread.

LOL! So they are withholding what, less than 10 percent of the tickets so that the remaining 90% that are gone will seem more valuable? Whew! What would we do without your revealing conspiracy theory?

He didn't say it was a conspiracy--he said its a common promotion practice.

I am glad to see I am not the only one that thinks this is a worthless thread.

Hello, and welcome to marketing 101.

Maybe not a troll thread but defintiely a "Look at me I'm such a rebel, and let people know the real deal! Hoorah for me!" thread.

"Hello, and welcome to marketing 101."

Really? If Best Buy did that with television sets, they would be sued. It must be in the "reserve" allotments that the loophole is found. Those can always "change" at any given time.

I would be happy if Ibelieve posted much more.

No they wouldn't! Are you saying that Best Buy has television X, and they sell most of them, so they would decide to hang on to some instead of selling them to make them seem popular?! News flash, if 90% sold, they are ALREADY popular! Holding back that 10% is just a waste of sales. Now, if they were holding back 90%, it might be different...

They might also be breaking the law if they were holding on to the rest to sell for a higher price, but that isn't what the UFC is doing. They are hanging on to some to give away to celebs that they can show during the event to show how "cool" it is.

So let me get this straight, you're saying that fight promoters often overhype their events in order to make more money? Yeah right. Next you're gonna tell me Ken Shamrock isn't REALLY the worlds most dangerous man. Or that Adam and Eve didnt REALLY ride dinosaurs to church every sunday. Get real.

In Best Buy's case, it would be because they advertised 1,000 TV's, and then sold only 800 (and retained the rest). Can't do that.

In this case, even though the capacity is fairly well known, the number being sold is not. This is probably why it is ok--I am guessing.

"In Best Buy's case, it would be because they advertised 1,000 TV's, and then sold only 800 (and retained the rest). Can't do that. "

lol. I have never seen Best Buy advertise how many of a product they have in stock before.

It has happened a number of times with retailers. Advertise a special promotional product to get people to show up. Don't have the number they claimed, or claim they sold the first lot, and jack the price on the rest.

But UFC isn't jacking the price of the rest. The two hundred dollar tickets are still two hundred dollars...

True as well--

They don't announce an amount, which is why they can say "sold out"--that is my guess.

Macedawg Aloha from N. W. Phoenix.

Of course it isn't legal. But - the promotion company has the right to hold back x-amount of tickets though.

And to the rookie stating $150's etc gone. They can say all they want. The event is not sold out. There are many tickets left if you're willing to pay the price ( lil' hint here - promotional companies have brokers they work with to sell at a higher price ).

xshanex :) I agree.

It's sux though when they have no clue about marketing 101 in sporting events.
