Out of 56 Champions(repeat champions only counted once)

that's 10 out of 56 for 17.8% of UFC Champions who at one point in their mma career tested positive for peds.

 

18% is pretty signficant.  I wonder how many champions were using that never were busted.  Jeff Monson fought for the title a few times and never tested positive but has gone on record saying he has used peds his entire career.

- Kevin Randleman, for submitting a urine sample that lacked human hormones, following his submission loss to Mauricio Rua at PRIDE 32 in October 2006. Said NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer: “It was either allegedly non-human urine or urine from a dead human being.” Randleman admitted that he submitted a fake sample because of the large amounts of painkillers and antibiotics he was taking at the time due to a lung infection. He was suspended from competition for one year.

Randleman admitted to taking anabolic steroids prior to his fight with Shogun. Obviously if it helped it wasn't enough.  I don't like talking about Randleman in this light due to recent circumstances.

 

I 100% agree that Lyoto beating Thiago Silva at the time was huge. Even in hindsight it was big. Thiago had never been dropped let alone ko'ed in a fight. Lyoto finishing him only reassurred me that Lyoto has the skills to finish virtually anyone.

I had read that Josh Barnett tested positive for his UFC Bobby Hoffman fight but that at the time, NSAC gave him a verbal warning and no suspension.



 



His very next fight he tested positive against Randy and then the NSAC started testing athletes regularly and issuing suspensions.



 



Ironically Josh Barnett caused stricter testing for mma.  He's an icon, not a bad guy lol

Would Bas Rutten also count? He was another UFC champ that failed a drug test, albeit for painkillers.

He sacrificed himself for the sport.
He knew by injecting steroids it would clean up the sport and that is what he wanted all along.

Sherk was already champion by beating Kenny Florian though. Went in the Hermes fight as champ, beat Hermes on an even playing field.  Both popped.

I honestly cannot tell if you are being serious or poking fun at me but in case you are being serious, do not  be hard on yourself.  I made a thread last week where the premise was best fighters who never won a championship. The entire first page was how bad ass Sean Sherk was.  I had totally forgot he was the champion lol
