"Our buddies over at Nightmare of Battle posted an excerpt from the new issue of Kamipro where Dana White was interviewed. From Nightmare of Battle:
In the table of contents it says "Finally, in December, UFC will land in Japan" and there is a quote from the interview with Dana White where he says "A Japan event is already in this years schedule"

well well well? motherfuckers?
Scrappy Rogacki - Just like he was going to be in NY last year? I'm still waiting... well well what motherfucker?
Different scenario entirely no one could've predicted that New York still wouldn't be regulated right now.
They think they can bring the American UFC product to Japan and the live/TV audiences will just accept them with open arms. Good luck with that.

Waste of time and money.
It's going to be a supped up fight night type show. The japanese market is dying but there's still enough money to do a show here and there.
Zuffa doesnt need big time broadcast and sponsorship dollars like FEG does to make it viable. Japan is just another minor spoke in the global wheel.
Australia is a much better market and it's booming there.
Still Japan is the 3rd largest economy in the world. jmma fucked up the sport there by blurring the lines with MMA and Prowrestling too much.
They treated it like a circus and it became a fad. If Zuffa continued the freak show aspect the UFC originated as and didnt turn it into an actual sport mma in the US would have also died just like every other fad... instead it's thriving and will continue to.
The japanese wanted short term gain and that usually results in long term pain which is what they're seeing now.

They treated it like a circus and it became a fad..
That is the way Japan is, it wasnt anything to do with the matches. Also having no tv deal killed pride, again not the content of the matches.
That's how everywhere is to a certain extent. Imagine if MMA in the US never had any political problems. If UFC continued on it's path of gore and violence... it would have been very big and then it would have died just like mma did in Japan... yakuza or not.
There are so many fads that come and go in the US. Zuffa took an approach that resulted in short term pain but produced long term gain with a very strong foundation.
jmma was like the xfl and the UFC is like the NFL. JMMA was all sizzle no steak. That only lasts for so long until the new "thing" comes out.... even if the yakuza scandal didnt hit it was only time before jmma's shelf life expired.
sick...
whos on the fight card?
Silva vs Okami???
UFC in Japan for New Years Eve?!?!?!?!
1. Don't beleive everything Dana says
2. See number 1
MMA Junkie reports that interest is back on:
"The rumor is true," said White, who couldn't given any exact details on a date or host venue. "We're going to come to Japan, and probably soon."
Just how soon?
"This year," he said.
