UFC release 9 fighters

The UFC have released a number of fighters just as they make room for the additions of the Strikeforce signees.

Chad Griggs, Nick Penner, Marcus LeVesseur, John Cofer, Joey Gambino, Jeff Hougland, Jared Papazian and Yasuhiro Urishitani and Henry Martinez are the 9 released.

There are no particularly huge surprises amongst the list of releases, Flyweights Jared Papazian (0-3 UFC) and Yasuhiro Urushitani( 0-2 UFC) have not made the grade after failing to pick up a single win between them. Papazian most recently lost a one sided decision to Timothy Elliot at the latest TUF finale, this was his first fight at 125 pounds. Urushitani meanwhile, entered as part of the inaugural Flyweight tournament but was knocked out by Joseph Benavidez. His most recent fight, a decision loss to John Lineker at UFC on FUEL 6, was not enough to keep a spot on the roster.

I wonder who will end up in Bellator.

The only thing I don't think is fair is fighters getting cut when they are facing top competition. If a guy is ranked 9 and losses to rank 3,4, and 7, he will likely be cut. But not everyone will be champion.

Papazian deserves more time he was in 2 amazing fights I thought he would get another shot Phone Post

Griggs! That dude was tough as nails and always came to war.

I also like Gambino Phone Post

Bit odd them getting rid of 125ers when the division is so thin and those guys lost to top guys.

Pride Wanderlei - Griggs! That dude was tough as nails and always came to war.

I also like Gambino Phone Post

Yea i was hoping to see Gambino get another shot. Guy brings it everytime. Phone Post

Griggs deserved another imo Phone Post

Pretty much exactly what I was going to post.

I think Gambino should have got another shot, if I remember correctly his last fight was fucking awesome! Phone Post

LaVasseur's two losses were late notice fights. One of which he stepped up the day of weigh ins.

Martinez, Papazian, and Griggs could be great additions to Bellator......

With all of the Strikeforce guys coming over, some cuts were bound to happen.

I'm split on Papazian. His firste fight was on short notice and he looked good afgainst Easton, but his second fight wasn't good at all. Flyweight doesn't have a lot of depth but 3 in a row, you gotta go.

Martinez should be given another chance, I think he took some fights at welterweight right? He fought Riddle I remember and that was pretty good.

Gambino had a lot of hype and didn't impress. Not surprised on him

Slap Maxwell - LaVasseur's two losses were late notice fights. One of which he stepped up the day of weigh ins.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I read it. Makes you think twice before judging people who turn down short notice fights. And I still have no idea how his last opponent made weight. Phone Post

This. Only one that kind of surprised me. Phone Post

Damn shame about Griggs. Phone Post

no shockers. i like griggs but i wouldnt pay to see him fight in the HW division, but he could likely be interesting at 205lbs. He just cant compete with the athletic 250+ guys of the ufc

SonOfThePeepHole -
UGRBTT_Thatsjustlikeyouropinionman - Can't disagree with any of those Phone Post

Stfu moron

Papazian had like one fight and it was exciting as fuck Phone Post

0-3, I agree his fight with Easton was awesome though. Phone Post

His last UFC fight was at 205 and he got his ass handed to him.  Dude's tough and has heart but at this point in his career he is not UFC caliber at any weight.

forgot that! i stand corrected. with that, ya give him the boot.
